Hit the mushrooms !
Omg, I was stuck for like 1h30 in this game, cause i couldn't find how to jump on the mushroom... shame on me.

I don't really like games holding hands, but I had to read it somewhere on this forum to get this.
I stupidly tried to jump while bouncing to get higher (pretty common on most platform games)

May be just there should be just a small tip, at least in the command list, to know this king of thing.

Just my 2 cents.

That happens to lots of people because the devs failed to have a section on your way to the first city that requires you to use upward and downward slash to proceed.
I thought for 4 hours that the protagonist can only slash horizontally.

Wow. I figured out in the first 5 min or so you can strike upwards. I was disappointed by no diagonal strike. I figured out downward pretty well, and when I bounced on my first enemy, I smirked. The mushrooms were a no-brainer once I saw they had physicked collisions. There should have been some more on walls for you to hit and bounce back from. Or a note on a dead bug or something, though. Again, it wasn't hard for me to figure out I could pogo on enemies and these mushrooms (and other breakable items in the worlds, like the bookshelf next to the first crystal guardian that leads to the second crystal guardian), but others may need that little extra guidance.

I only knew you could pogo on your nail after I saw someone do it on YouTube. It was probably around my 40th attempt against Hornet when I realized. Face palm moment indeed.

If that makes you any better it took me the FREAKING RADIANCE FIGHT to discover that shadow dash makes me invurnable :D

Yeah, I found the little tutorial help popups to be somewhat inconsistent. They have nice hint popup for jumping right at the beginning (it only pops up if you need it; i.e. you stay in the little pit long enough).

But others are harder to find (I've only seen the "you can look down" hint in the Brooding Mawlek area), and some things you don't get hints for at all (e.g. how to stop a Crystal Dash in mid-air, or pogo jumping).

I think the ability to bounce off environmental obstacles with the down slash is the one control element the game could do a better job of explaining. Bouncing off spikes is more of a cool hidden extra for the people who figure it out, but the boingy mushrooms seem like they stump a lot of people when they reach that point.

Ten or so people complaining on the forums isn't really comaprable to the silent masses who just play the game regularly and never even think to comment, especially when they have no negative issues. Do you also think that the Trial of the Fool should be easier just because two guys took 20 hours to beat it and posted on the forum about it?

I don't think anyone is asking for the mushrooms to be made easier, just for an (arguably) non-intuitive mechanic to be explained better. Typically games with bouncy-pad mechanics don't require melee attacks to use them IME.

I've watched several playthroughs by fairly experienced Youtubers, and they all took a little while to figure out the mushroom bouncing.

All it takes is hitting the mushrooms once, from any direction, to understand their bouncy property.

Agreed, which is exactly why I think some hint text wouldn't hurt. It's not a particularly interesting or rewarding "secret" to discover on ones own, so I think there is little merit to "we don't want the game to hold your hand" arguments ... and it's certainly less obvious than "press jump button to jump" hint that they DO already provide.

If it makes you feel any better I got stuck for about an hour for that and I was already just bouncing on enemies heads killing them. So I felt pretty stupid when it dawned on me.
