(Can't believe I'm gonna chime in on this one)
If I reach a check point and close the game, will I still be there when I next play it? Yes, because Hollow Knight saves every time you rest at a bench. It IS semantics because in this context the checkpoint DOES save the game.
Honestly... Sigh.
The benches are save points, not checkpoints. Checkpoints are automatic saves, while save points are typically manual. Hollow Knight is a bit of a hybrid in that progress is saved automatically at certain points, but your position on starting the game or after dying is reliant on your last manual save.
Like I said - it's not semantics.
Also it kind of ruins the experience of overcoming the game if you have an easy mode. To be honest there are plenty of things that make this game easier like finding masks, op charms, or nail upgrades early. Im sure im sure theres a guide for that.
I personally dont think every game should be for everyone either. It waters down the content.
I disagree. There is still interest by some players for Hollow Knight to have an Easy mode, and recent talk of save points comes from a suggestion by two players to add more of them if such a mode were introduced.
Let’s keep the thread open, but stay on topic. Those not interested can unsubscribe from the discussion.
I’m fine with locking achievements, too.
As for ruining the experience, the experience of what? Overcoming great challenges and beating the game? People only want an easy mode because their current experience is already being ruined by difficulty.
The only people whose experience would be “ruined” (sounds a bit extreme) are those who are already good enough to beat the game on Normal, but choose to rush through on Easy instead - but that’s their choice.
How to be More of a ♥♥♥♥♥ Than People Who Refuse to Git Gud: The Post
The hard mode could make enemy patterns faster, everything would deal double mask damage, and enemies would have more health.
The easy mode would make enemy patterns slower, everything except double damage dealers would deal half a mask, and enemies would have a bit less health.
These difficulty settings would have the best of both worlds for everyone, but the normal mode would still be recognized as the way the game was meant to be played.
That's fine with me, but I feel like Fury of the Fallen already gives you a "hard mode" if you choose to use it - you're basically always a one-hit wonder because you can only have 1 mask (and no armor) for it to be active.
Speeding up animations or weakening the player sounds more like frustrating than difficult. Easy mode would simply have checkpoints in addition to the benches - such as the game automatically giving you a checkpoint just outside the boss arena, so there's no real run back. You could couple this with reducing boss HP. I don't think that regular enemies would need any changes, since I've never seen people complaining about getting stuck trying to get past regular enemies.
I'd also lock the 100% completion stuff while playing on the easy mode.
I love the game and want to play it more, but as a working adult with limited free time, what really killed the game was the time spent reaching to the boss fights after each try. The travel doesn't make you improve your technique, they are pretty trivial after a while, they are just a punishment payed in play time for failing. Maybe an easy mode would mean just making more save spots so you can "git good" faster?
Vile necromancy surrounds you
Oh, what...
Sorry, I meant...
CELESTE ASSIST MODE like mode?
Yeah, sure.
Have it.
That would be fun.
