Why do developers keep putting carry weight limits in games?
Does anyone actually enjoy tediously shuffling items back and forth across various menus? Or finding something they want to loot but not being able to without dumping garbage out all over the place? This is always the first thing I mod out in any game that has it. I can't think of a single game that was improved with excessive inventory management, with the exception of RE4.

Not wanting the player to have too many resources could be balanced by simply not putting so many items in the game world in the first place.

it does the job of filler
so you have to return to places
strings the game out

Partially, but I think that's a bit to simplified. It's so much more than that.

It's stupid and the people defending it are stupid.

Darklands did it right like, 24 years ago.

Doing it right is a matter of perspective. And calling ''defenders'' of this system stupid is just plain dumb. I think it's a good system for this game and sure not everyone will like it...

This is also something I always mod out. I hate it with passion.

I'm utterly amazed how many people defend this utterly tedious and boring mechanic. This game understands fun so well in so many other aspects of its design, and yet it stumbles by putting such an archaic and unfun mechanic into the game.

I want to go out and have an adventure, whack some goblins over the head, not play Excel for 10 minutes every time I return to an inn.

Shadow of Mordor is that way ->

And people saying that this make the game more hardcore: STFU. Pillars of Eternity has infinite inventory, and that game is hard as balls(At least on hardest difficulty). You can make a game hard and challenging by not adding tedious and time wasting stuff.

The more items you have in your inventory the longer it takes to load. if you have 2500 items in your inventory it will crash your game. storage systems are designed so that it wont crash your game. inside a city so that way less background detail is loaded. And usually the icons are symplified. besides in this game body weight, carry weight actually play a role in many aspects of the game. If you weigh to much avians cant carry you off and drop you to your death, the more you way the slower a troll and cyclopses are when moving, you can even weigh down lesser dragons with enough weight, (to some degree). but games have to add it in. less the game crashes every time you open your inventory.

so yes im defending it because im not stupid. If you dont like it gtfo. Pillars of eternity doesnt have thousands of items to potentially store in your inventory. plus it seperates the items on pages, meaning it has to load every item on every page. by making it a small amount of items per page that fixes it. but what if you have 5000 items. you know how much more annoying it is to scroll through 62 pages to find the item you want.... "well just add a search system" have you ever searched a specific file on your computer? you know how long it takes? takes a while. the more things you have on your HDD the longer it takes. so yes there is an inventory system. because not everyone has 16+ gigs of ram. in fact most people have 8. because 8 gigs of ram is all anything these days takes. with the right graphics card that is.

so get over it people stop complaining its there for a reason. they wouldn't put it in if they didnt have to. at least this game made an entire game mechanic off of the carrywieght... if you cant beat it, make it enjoyable.

TIP: STOP HOARDING ITEMS IN YOUR BAG! My bank has thousands of items. My bags are almost never filled up. I run BBI and only fill up 2 followers bag spaces from the whole place.

I'm defending it because it's a balancing mechanic that prevents the game from just being a walk in the park for the player. There are a multitude of other ways that I find better, but that doesn't mean that this mechanic should just be removed. Also you shouldn't have to be managing your inventory for even a minute, even if you are doing BBI.

As much as I loved PoE, it has it's own areas of tedium and also is a completely different kind of game.

The weight in this actually changes how the character feels in combat. It isn't just a number.

Thye trying to make it feel real... Instead of a magic bag with endless void

then go play some damn halo >=( or mass effect.. or dead space... or dark souls. just stop complaining because you hoard to many items and suck and inventory management... stop taking every damn thing you see. or give some items to your followers. or better yet level up and get some more carryweight.

edit. actually think dark souls is the only one on that list with infinite bag space but still... if you can carry 5 tons of items you let me know. you know how much a real claymore ways? let alone 50 sets of armor 10 weapons and about 500 misc rocks >=( I'm amazed that they can carry all that. especially in their non existant back pack. must keep all that in their pockets. So not fantasy right..

One thing I know for sure. The devs aren't going to release a patch to get rid of the weight mechanic in this game, so any discussion as to whether it should be removed from this game is purely academic.

The defense argument is really an explanation as to why the mechanic is there and what it does for the gameplay of this game.

So if someone dislikes it that much, then you either mod it out and then have to constantly make up your own mechanics to give the game balance which sounds pretty tedious to me or accept it and play. Or go play something else if it is that game breaking for a player's tolerance.

OP dump the stuff you want to keep but are unlikely to use into the storage/bank and restock from it as needed.
