cqb damages ir really good tho
u can try it out.i think it's likes 20 meters and two thirds of their original damage
SMGs are for short-range engagements.
ARs are "generalist" guns, good at all ranges.
LMGs are for longer-range engagements (they lose less damage and ccuracy at range than ARs do).
...
Right now, I run with an SMG primary, and a DMR secondary.
When I've got 20m or more between me and the enemy, it's DMR time; I've gotten reasonably good at a pop-up-shoot-duck, lather sinse and repeat pattern. Two body shots, or one headshot, does for most typical, at-level enemies.
But the DMR is a bolt-action rifle with only a 9-round magazine (7 actually, but yayy for an awesome [blue] Quick Release magazine I got ten levels ago with +30% magazine size as a secondary bonus). It's rate of fire is low enough to make it a liability close in.
So, I switch to the SMG once enemies get to 10m or closer (that's roughly two car lengths). It has a high ROF, and while it's accuracy behind about 15m sucks balls ... INSIDE that range, it's damned, DAMNED good. :)
...
I switch weapons often. Typically I'm on the SMG while moving around, especially indoors, because if I need to turn someone into swiss cheese RIGHT GORRAM NOW, I don't want to waste half a second switching weapons. OTOH, if they're far enough away to make that DMR a better choice, they're far enough away I'll have TIME to switch weapons, and line up a good shot. (The 15x scope on it makes it really, REALLY fun to open up a party from 40m or more. Headshot from half a block away? I'm on it!!)
Personally, I'm using a SCAR (DMR) as a primary with a Vector as my secondary, replacing an 870, with mixed results. I prefer long-range engagement, and the SCAR's rof is a great compromise between small-mag bolt-action rifles and an assault rifle in my case. If/when anything can get within close range, I switch to the Vector and light them up.
Previously, I used the 870 for close-range (and some mid-range) and I'm not sure I won't go back to that. Also, I use my sidearm a lot, which in my case is the Storm.
