Village defense missions just too damn difficult?
So I tried these contracts twice and I just gotta say that they are way too hard compared to the rewards they offer.

In each scenario I encountered them near the middle game when I had an around 12-man company with decent mid-tier gear and in both cases the contract was an undead attack on the settlement (not during a crisis, mind you)

My first attempt at such mission was actually the easier one, as I ended up taking down a undead group with a necromancer with somewhat acceptable losses. But the quest didn't end there, and my beaten up, injured company with damaged gear was supposed to face another attack - which obviously didn't go well at all.

The second attempt at this quest in a different run went much worse - I had 12 bros against a group of 12 zombies and a necromancer. And I'm sure people know that fighting 12 zombies can end up with 24, due to their respawns, and even more with a necromancer respawning zombies and taking control of fallen bros.

So yeah, my 12 mid-game bros was supposed to take on around 50 enemies to complete a medium difficulty quest (important)

The best part is that NOTHING about these contracts in both cases suggest that it would be a defense against undead - in fact I'm pretty sure in the second attempt the contract clearly talked about a incoming bandit raid. Only after accepting and waiting for a moment I would get a 'undead are attacking' message in both cases.

I'm pretty damn sure bandits would be much easier due to the fact that they don't come back to life, can get debuffs and don't have a wizard mofo granting them super strenght and speed every damn turn.

Even more, these quests force you to take on multiple enemy groups for a price that does not equal the effort needed to take down multiple enemy groups in one go. And they also shouldn't bait players by not informing them what they would be fighting against. Like, I'm sure these settlement leaders can tell the difference between a brigand band and a zombie horde coming to attack their village, right?

Rant out. I'm probably never going to take these quests again, as they are not even worth the effort.

What day was that? I had this on day 35 or so and it was manageable. Obviously, if you don't have good Archers with Bullseye or Maces to counter Possess Undead, it's going to hurt.

You're saying 50 enemies, but those are 50 enemies that only attack once per turn, have crappy weapons and abysmal Melee Skill and Defense. So it's not exactly like fighting Raiders armed with Hammers, Flails, Pikes, Crossbows and other nasty weapons plus actual brains to avoid Spearwalls.

You're missing the part where they have necromancers with them, which allow one zombie to be faster and attack three times and can cast it every turn.

When it's only zombies, it's not that bad - you just have to be prepared for a long and exhausting fight. But when a necromancer is on the board, the whole fights is just about trying to get through the horde so you can take the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ down as fast as possible, because like he said he can revive zombies multiple times, make them stronger and can turn fallen bros into zombies.

Like, I remember I had a situation in a quest where after clearing out a undead location, I was asked to also go take down the necromancer - and I was paid extra for that.

Village defense quests are stupid when you're supposed to do multiple fights and don't actually get paid much more than for a regular medium difficulty quest.

Maybe you should think about your group set up and formation. Faced a similar quest during undead crisis (as my first crisis, so my bros are mediocre). 5 waves. Crushed it, loved the free xp and decent amount of stuff to sell after all 5 waves. 2 waves legionaires, 2 waves undead + necromancer, and 1 random wave of aprox 20 nachzen.
Only 2 wounded.

As it was mentioned above - dealing with undead party that has necromancer requires decent archers 'cos this guy has to be taken down asap. The quest itself is fine, tons of loot & exp due to multiple enemy waves.
And I confirm that undead enemies instead of human ones is quite common, had three such quests to defend the settlement expecting brigands but got undead instead.

This is one of my favorite added new missions. I was expecting Bandits but when the Necro and zombies showed up in two seprate groups I thought it was great mission variation. One thing I have been doing since the new DLC came out was to have my swordsmen carry cleavers of some kind as a backup weapon - this made handling zombies around day 30 not too difficult.

Zombies are comically easy to kill. Just have a couple spear walls and they will run into it over and over again. I ran into a group of 10 zombies aound day 5 and took them all out with four lvl 1-2 Bros.
