Yours is nice!
King Arthur the Role Playing War Game had something similar where you would have a mini choose your own adventure text-game anywhere from 2-10-15 choices of dialogue or 'scout ahead' vs 'charge the encampment' action choices with new art for new scenes... all voice acted by one guy who did a damn fine job.
Those would pop either as hero quest for item or before a Total War style battle and your choices of action would dictate enemy army size and composition as well as deployment locations. Like you killed two units of wolf riders with your 'scout ahead' action, found a sword that was in their camp and now deploy on high ground while they have lost half their Calvary.
Or maybe you'd end up with a few enemy units because King Arthur was like 'bow down b.itches' and suddenly you have two of those enemy archer units you hate because they murder you.
Haven't seen anything even close until this game. Definitely fangirling in between FNG and roll rage.
i never heard about this event or sword until recently but some guys datamine this game piece by piece and no one ever mentioned it.
I haven't found a niche for witchhunters, honestly. I hire about 2 per playthrough but have never kept one (not an early hire due to expense). How do you use them?
I guess I am thinking about doing a playthrough where I do none of my usual background hires just for challenge and variety.
I mean Witchhunters are pretty amazing due to the 20 Resolve at morale checks against fear, panic or mind-control effects.
I have at least three in my current roster. Don't know exactly because there are several brothers who have been turned into cultist now.

It is not that difficult to find decent ones. Unfortunately my ranged dude became a drunkard, but he is still good enough to be useful. Hopefully it will be cured some day.
I also think they could make decent hi res spearmen for the flank as geist always seem to attack my flanks.
Well you either got lucky with the stars or you spend lots on witch hunters. Yeah I probably would have tried one out had I ever recruited one with good stars.
The 20 resolve against fear would be amazing on a front-liner who is not a sergeant. Sergeants have such high resolve they don't need it. Looking at max stats, they have pretty average potential except in resolve and ranged attack. Cultists make better banner sergeants for a lot less, and hunters make better archers for about the same.
Yeah maybe a flank guy, though typically guys on the flank need to be the best defenders (or fodder early on) and with average melee stats it doesn't seem like the best investment.
The crossbow/sergeant idea is interesting, basically a hybrid sergeant. It sounds a little more awkward than the usual hybrid, given you are choosing between shooting your bow and having your banner out in addition to trying to support both melee attack and ranged attack in level ups, along with defense. Overall, it doesn't sound optimal, but I'll certainly try it at some point since I need to try all backgrounds to experience all events, especially this one having an unusually good reward.
It's definitely true. On the edge of the map, even little orc camps seem to give uniques most of the time. The problem is that the uniques haven't been very good. I think some maps are worse for it than others though, like if there are no places really far from cities (donut distribution of cities).
