Where do you acquire famed/magical items the most?
I keep seeing amazing items in posts, and lots of them in people's games, but I am in second crisis and only have 4. I don't really have the money to buy them, so I'm wondering if people are discovering a lot of them in camps?

A secondary question. Have I misinterpreted camps all this time? I always avoided them while trying to get my fame up in first 100 days and figured once I destroyed them they're gone for good thus won't spawn raiding enemies. Do they keep re-spawning so you can keep trying to farm stuff?

I devoted a whole section to that matter in my wiki guide if you want details.

Yes, the best source is enemy locations. The further and the bigger they are, the more likely they'll have one or even two named items.

Yes, camps respawn. Do not hesitate to clear them all, unless you want them to keep sending parties or grow in strength.

Dang all this time I'd been avoiding them for nothing. So dumb of me! No wonder I'm so far behind the curve. Dang. Can you link me that location in your guide?

Sometimes you want to sell almost everything you can to buy named items. A long axe with mansplitter stats? Buy it. The 2h longsword with bonuses to base damage, armor damage and armor bypass? buy it. Not all named items are equal, so learn which ones for both weapons and armor are really worth the money and then buy them even if you have to sacrifice some stuff.

I do my best to keep a stash of 20k+ so that I can scoop up famed stuff when they appear in stores.

But like McGrits said you have to know when it is worth buying. I saw a 205/-11 hat for 9k at a store. That's hardly better than a Barbute and 3x the price. Skip. But that hat can sometimes roll 230/-7 and that could be great for a Nimble bro.

Saw a famed Javelin where the only difference is that it was 2 fatigue lighter to equip.

Anyway, camps and stores are the main way to get Famed. Tavern rumors help. Sea of Tents usually net me stuff. Caravans to citadels usually spawn something.

So do any of you attack Mercenaries for their possible loot? Will it affect just the town that sent them out if you kill them, or the entire house aligned with the town that sent them out?

I'm fairly certain that attacking a hired mercenary group means that you're attacking the faction which hired them.

You will get both a city hit and a noble house hit. Since you have separate reputations with each, the net may have different results. I once misclicked on entering a city and attacked mercenary group. The noble faction went from allied to friendly, while the city that hired it went from neutral to hostile.

Some merc are hired by factions and some by cities. Killing mercs hired by a faction will turn the faction hostile, while the city ones will just make the city hostile.

However, making cities hostile does drag down your relations with the faction overall.

Check taverns. The patrons will give rumors and tell you where to find famed items if any are nearby. Otherwise go burn down camps that are far away from cities. Also if you have the money you can take escort contracts to cities that have armorer, weaponsmith or fletcher for a chance to make famed items appear in the store with a well supplied discount.

Early game the tavern rumors are your best bet.

Btw what are directions in the game? Tavern patron says there is mystical armor on hills west of here. Does 'the west' means directly left of the city?

on one seed i got 3 famed items in the closest 5 raider camps and on other seeds i can destroy 40 camps and get nothing

also, attacking mercenary groups during the war is a great way of getting great gear

No it is not necessarily that precise.

Just yesterday I had a tip for famed armor west of a town held by bandits. The camp directly west had nothing, but one a ways south of that one (south-west of the city) had the armor.

Thanks! I found a hill fort to south-west of the city :)

I would say sea of tents has the highest chance

Goblin Cities 2nd highest

Not anymore from bandit leaders - or just super rare. Had only 1 famed shield from over 100 bandit leaders.
