actually the armor was not removed, only the means to get the hide armor were, in my old save i still have 3 direwolf armors whit complete description and stats consistent whit the pre dlc version, i also have one set of "direwolf mail armor" which again has the same stats as before the dlc which are different from a mail armor straped whit a direwolf add-on, out of all these armors, 2 hide armors were crafted whit the other 2 looted on bandits. that confirms that the armors are still present in the game and game files as i litteraly have them right here in my old pre dlc save, what i cannot comfirm though is if said armors are still availlable as loot from certain quests involving bandits (precisely the quest where the villagers are afraid of beasts) where the quest had many options and one of them was that it was bandits wearing armor that made them look like direwolves were responsible, making you able to loot their armor. So far i havent encountered this option of the quest so the leather direwolf armor might still be availlable through that (the mail one being only availlable through that quest). Modding could also probably give you the armor if you desperately want it.

True, the resources for the armors are still there. You cannot get more of them with the DLC installed but you can still find them if it's not installed (the Tailor event works in that case). another question is if the lindwurm armor of old is still obtainable as i have the coat on my old save and im wondering if the same happened for it and the helmet to.
