Beast Slayers are top tier.
So I finally found a 3 star contract to hunt some Unholds, i'm on day 45 or so and the contract was for 1600 crowns which is a pretty little penny.

I tracked the three unholds down, and then I got an event saying my beast slayer ran out and starting whooping and hollaring like a madman. I could stop him and order an attack or let him continue. I let him go on and he made a bunch more noise, and it turns out drove them away.

I didn't have to fight them, and I walked right back to town and collected my crowns.

In conclusion Beast Slayers are top tier and in the case of Unholds at least, can prevent a battle and are extremely useful vocations to hire.

Anyone figured out what kind of stat boosts beast slayers get yet?

It seems as if resolve and fatigue has been fairly common in my experience.

They have a bit more Ranged Skill, supposedly. I think they could be lower Sellswords in terms of stats.

damn. wish i had a beast slayer. just did a tier 2 contract for 3 unholds. they just slaughtered my party of 12. each hit they did hit 3-4 of my men and eventually one swapped places with my main damage dealer then killed 3 men in a single blow.

They seem pretty similar to militia. Their max starting melee skill (minus any affecting traits) is 62. Their ranged skill is usually in the high 40s (at least +5 versus most backgrounds). Their resolve and max-fatigue tend to be a bit higher than the norm, but only slightly (I got a "Fearless" one whose resolve would've been only 35 without the trait). Their HPs and defence skills seem fairly standard.

Interesting. Thanks!

Unholds... Or the moment where I might consider footwork over rotation.
Unholds.... the moment I am happy to step aside and let another mercenary company go first.

No really, you can go slay it, we´ll watch you back.

Same here... who promptly got kicked by the thing and laughed at. Then started the battle with a fractured rib and lower morale. I guess there's a chance the event will fail.

Footwork is awesome (for mercs with high melee skill) against unholds and schrats. Can't see it being that useful in the Black Monolith, but it's great against small numbers of high-damage opponents.
