Not so good spiked impaler
I havbe been using the spiked impaler for the longest time over the heavy Xbow since it is lighter by 2 points. But i only just realised it had 5% less chance to hit... that makes Heavy Xbows much better in my opinion. Also i thin the push effect is detrimental when you are trying to kill a priority target like a shaman or necromancer since they won't be in range for your second xbowman.

Nothing better than skewering a raider with a bolt from a heavy crossbow. That wet thud sound effect.

Yeah i just love that sound too. Sounds are great in BB even the birds are great to listen to.
I really enjoy when i Onsehot a necromancer i just spoted on the first turn with my falcon !

Yes, I prefer the Heavy Crossbow for the added hit chance. It won't matter though once you get a Named Crossbow with good stats.

Oh i got one that is great but i run 3 xbowmen and 2 archers

I have yet to see a single named ranged weapon. Do you find them at fletcher's or taken from enemies?

Master Archers sometimes drop Named Crossbows or Bows but it's extremely rare. My tests indicate something like 1% chance or less.
Fletchers can sell them too, but there's also a chance you'll get either Throwing Axes or Javelins too (which I never use).

Man you gotta try hybrid crossbow + throwing weapons + quick hands + berserk it's hell of fun and so efficient too ! up to three kills in one turn and many options to activate berserk like : Move 1 tile shoot bolt don't get the kill, switch to javelin get a kill, get 4 PA second javelin second kill (you go from 0 kills to 2)

Same. I love this setup for my backline guys who aren't pure archers.

Well I've tried Throwing Weapons but they're inferior to Bows in all aspects: range and damage (archers can remain stationary). They also require several Perks to work. And you need multiple named versions to match a single named Bow.

Nono you play with crossblow AND Throwing weapons on the same guys. with quick hands and Berserk. It is just wonderfull and wonderfull DPS

i believe an advantage of the crossbow and throwing weapons hybrid (I call this build Skirmisher) is that they can be effective against ancient undead
Scathe Jun 9, 2018 @ 1:44am
I've not been impressed enough with the potential of throwing weapons yet to give them a real try, and having just finished off my first late game crisis(greenskin invasion) I may not stick with the game to give them a good try, but where I see some potential is in babying low level highly talented recruits, and if I stick with it, I will probably have some low level recruits to give throwing weapons, like a squire or hunter or something. thing is, without a shield, a low level recruit is going to have significantly lower defenses than my level 9-10 guys, and throwing weapons are the only back row weapons that don't require two hands. shield + throwing weapons + bags full of more ammo for throwing weapons seems like an ideal setup for levels 1-6 or so in some fights(regardless of what their eventual perk build would be). a crossbow or polearm may be better if the enemy doesnt have any ranged guys, but it may expand the amount of fights that a newbie can be carried through to have some throwing weapons for him (in theory).

Well you ought to give them a try. On crossbow hybrids. These are really AMAZING ! if you play them correctly they deal crazy damages with incredible versatility and lots of fun.
