Interest in BB "challenge runs"
Hello friends,

On the Discord (https://discord.gg/Wwbsv4K), we're talking about maybe doing some monthly challenge runs. What this really means (to me) is dumb gimmicks with ridiculous rules, hopefully resulting in strange outcomes like helmetless Steel Brow nimble guys roleplaying AI sergeants.

In the past, these challenge runs have not been very popular so it's possible that many people are just not interested. Does anybody here think this sounds fun?

I'm thinking it would be pretty casual and we'd have a new idea every month. Any difficulty settings and even mods would be OK.

Here are some example ideas:

Idea 1 - There's a Northern Raiders seed with no friendly towns and only 2 friendly settlements, both castles. This means no contracts. How far can you make it on this map?
Idea 2 - You must level initiative on every brother every level.
Idea 3 - There is a seed (really, this is a real seed) that somehow spawns with dozens and dozens of famed items on it, just waiting for people to get them. How fast are you? Can you catch em all?
Idea 4 - Roll a die on each level-up and pick the corresponding perk from that tier (i.e. all perk choices are randomized).
Idea 5 - Start as Band of Poachers or Beast Slayers, and fire your hunter (BoP) or one melee Beast Slayer (BS) on day 1. Regardless of origin, you can only hire poachers, beast slayers, or witch hunters. (Let me know if you think some other weird ranged/hybrid backgrounds might work for this challenge.)

Anybody have any other cool ideas? Could be fun! If there's even a faint pulse on this idea, we will definitely give it a go soon on the Discord :cozyrealmroyale:

We could actually combine several of these ideas.
I like n°2 because we usually tend to avoid pure Initiative builds so it would be a good opportunity to really give them a good chance.
By the way, I remember someone sharing a Raider seed with only 1 friendly settlement. It would make the challenge even harder!

I have an idea, based partially off idea 5. beast slayer or barbarian origin run, if barbarian fire the monk, if beast slayer don't have to fire anyone. limited to using the following armors and helmets: bear headpiece, beastmaster headpiece, heavy horned plate helmet, any armor with "Hide" in the name, any armor with direwolf pelt attached. can only hire beast slayers, shepherds, wildmen, and maybe poachers, edit- maybe ratcatchers too.(these seem to be the most animal-themed backgrounds)

lone wolf start:
Player character may only wear cloth armor (everything that fitts roughly in the "regular clothing" theme) and may only use his bare hands or a lute as a weapon.
If to easy:
May only hire juggler/bards and ONE tailor at the same time.

jokes aside, only cloth armor would be very challenging, especially later in the campaign

I don't think lone wolf origin fits the bard theme as well as some others, because I don't think minstrels would limit their followers to a small amount.

what about this - trading caravan start, must hire a minstrel in the first 10 days or lose, once hired, the minstrel must participate in every combat, may only wear cloth, and may only wield a lute or bare hands. if this minstrel dies you lose.

or this - peasant militia start, only seeds where you start with a minstrel are eligible, minstrel must wear cloth and wield a lute or bare hands, if minstrel dies you lose. minstrel must participate in all combats.

both those options would be easier I think. but not starting at level 5 and with hedge knight stats? hmm

edit - also, minstrel must be first and only character to take rally the troops.

How about:

-- Outcast Challenge. Permanent Destruction: On. Crisis: Greenskin or Undead. Not allowed to do noble contracts if you reach professional renown. Not allowed to buy/sell/hire/heal in strongholds. Not allowed to buy/sell/hire/heal in large or medium settlements, nor do contracts for them. Only allowed to buy/sell/hire/heal in (and do contracts for) small villages. Only allowed to hire characters from non-noble, non-professional, "social-outcast" backgrounds (e.g. wildmen, poachers, vagabonds, refugees, brawlers, thieves, gamblers, cultists, beggars, cripples, eunuchs, killers on the run, graverobbers). Allowed to keep other recruits gained via events.

-- Masochist Challenge. Not allowed to take Nimble, Battle-Forged or Indomitable.

-- Throwing Challenge. Everyone has to take Throwing Mastery. No one is allowed to use any other type of ranged weapon.

-- Masterless Challenge. No one is allowed to take any weapon mastery.

-- Defenceless Challenge. Not allowed to increase melee defence on any character unless they have Shield Expert, always carry a shield, and never have access to any weapons except 1H ones.

-- Utterly Defenceless Challenge. No one in your party is at any time permitted to increase melee or ranged defence, to carry a shield, or to have any perks that increase defence.

-- Dualist Challenge. Everyone has to increase both melee skill and ranged skill at every level.

-- Primitive Challenge. Not allowed to use any tier-3 weapons or any swords, x-bows or polearms (2H spears are okay). Only allowed to use tool-like weapons (i.e. woodcutting axes, wooden hammers, wooden flails, wooden maces/clubs, pickaxes, butcher's cleavers, staff slings, whips, goedendags, spetums, short/hunting bows, throwing weapons). Everyone must wear leather/cloth armour and headgear (no purchasable mail/scale/plate) or any non-purchasable and non-rare items looted from enemies (e.g. fallen hero, honour guard and barbarian armours are okay to wear, as are worn/rusty mails/helms from brigands, but you can't wear purchasable items that have been looted from leaders, hedge knights, noble house patrols etc.).

-- Looter Challenge. Not allowed to use Puncture or Lash ever. Only allowed to use weapons and armours that you have looted.

So, I'm probably not going to join that discord, but if you mention what challenge is going on in this forum, I'd be willing to make a thread here about my game in the challenge, if I did decide to participate. my idea about the animal themed party is one I'd probably play. I might also play the idea about leveling initiative every level on everyone, or Estieukua's ideas of masochist challenge, throwing challenge, or masterless challenge.

other than masochist, those seem like some of the easier ones though, so combining two I might be up for, like a throwing challenge where throwing mastery must be taken on everyone and is the only weapon mastery anyone can take, or throwing challenge plus suejak's idea #2.

I like this one just because it sounds like a very unique seed.

Maybe you could also edit saves and give the lone wolf asthmatic/old or something? Then just distribute the save.

The inquisition challenge: May only hire witch hunters, monks and flagellants. Never allowed to take demonic artifact, fertility idol or arcane book quests. Must fight every necromancer, hexen or alp you see. Must choose undead as first crisis.
