The editor will locate the value, which is the amount of money you currently have. Using a tool like https://gregstoll.com/~gregstoll/floattohex/ convert the amount of money you desire to hex. Which will look like the following 0x47435000 if you chose 50000. In the save game file the number is shown in reverse order. So 0x47435000 should be entered as 00 50 43 47 in the same position as the number that was found by your search for the 1200 (or whatever value you had a save time). Save the file in the hex editor, and if everything went right you should now have 50,000 coin.
Mods are added to your game's data folder without unzipping them. You'll need the Breditor mod and Script Hooks mods on Nexus.
Instructions for how to set those up and use the Breditor mod can be found here:
https://www.nexusmods.com/battlebrothers/mods/294
An alternative to Breditor is the Debug tool mod which has an option to add 10k crowns on a keybind. So if all you care about is infinite money then this is another way to get it. This mod will also require the mod hooks mods (as will most mods you find).
