The writing is... not as good as it really should have been, but there are sufficient options to give a fair amount of freedom in character expression. Ultimately, though it depends on what you care most about in an RPG. I'd definitely recommend Pillars of Eternity or Torment: Tides of Numenera over this, especially if you're not fond of the whole "evil won" schtick.
It would not make alot of sense to the story if you were the normal Hero type that you play in most of these games.
You can however choose to play the role of a "rebel", there are some hard choices you have to make. But over all you can be pretty heroic.
Not alot of the people in the game like it though, which makes sense in this world.
The sneaky rebel role might actualy have been one of my coolest playthoughs
Thanks guys I really appreciate the feedback. Some excellent help, and points you both made.
And TBH you have saved me 20 quid.
Ill give it a miss, and possibly now look at Div sin 2. Shame its not on sale. but well, at 10 quid more than either this or ashes it might be money well spent.
This is true for the factions too. There is one, the Unbroken, which you either team up with or they are proven to be so damn stubborn that you simply have to kill all of them before their actions doom an entire country.
