🌌 Do you have to play "the bad guy" in Tyranny?
I was looking at this or "ashes of numenera" But after some research Im not keen on the look of that one.

But I really dislike being forced to play "the bad guy."

I know evil has won in the game at the start. But can you choose to play on the side of good. correcting the world. Or fighting against the Tyranny?

Thanks for any help.

Eh... kind of. There is no "good side" in this game. There are factions who are, at best, morally ambiguous. For the most part you can play as a good person, or at least try to, but there are a few instances where you are *required* to ally with someone who is reprehensible.

The writing is... not as good as it really should have been, but there are sufficient options to give a fair amount of freedom in character expression. Ultimately, though it depends on what you care most about in an RPG. I'd definitely recommend Pillars of Eternity or Torment: Tides of Numenera over this, especially if you're not fond of the whole "evil won" schtick.

It would not make alot of sense to the story if you were the normal Hero type that you play in most of these games.

You can however choose to play the role of a "rebel", there are some hard choices you have to make. But over all you can be pretty heroic.

Not alot of the people in the game like it though, which makes sense in this world.

The sneaky rebel role might actualy have been one of my coolest playthoughs

@Arsene-Lupin and Etagloc.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the feedback. Some excellent help, and points you both made.
And TBH you have saved me 20 quid.

Ill give it a miss, and possibly now look at Div sin 2. Shame its not on sale. but well, at 10 quid more than either this or ashes it might be money well spent.

The Rebel path is pretty much the 'good guy' path.

I'd strongly recommend ignoring Original Sin 2 for now. If you're looking for some RPG suggestions, lemme know what kind of game you're looking for, and I can provide (I play far more RPGs than is healthy), and OS2 is indeed awesome... but it's also still in Early Access, and that is definitely something to avoid in any game, especially content-dense games like RPGs.

Obsidian, for the past years, is a bit obsessed with the "there is no good or evil" approach in cRPGs. You are technically playing a lawyer/judge combination and your task is to impartially uphold the law, which happens to also include the total conquest of a very resistant land. There are paths where you seemingly must do evil acts, but in reality is more like you have to sometimes make the lives of individuals bad so the entire region can prosper.

This is true for the factions too. There is one, the Unbroken, which you either team up with or they are proven to be so damn stubborn that you simply have to kill all of them before their actions doom an entire country.
