Worked for me on Mesa 18.1.4 on Antergos
RX64 here
edit:
Spoke too soon, Crashes with same error as soon as I try to load a game.
I have already checked the integrity of a game before test.
i use gentoo linux (kernel-4.17.4, nvidia-drivers-396.24-r1). My pc is i5-7300, 8gb ram, 4gb 1050 video.
The framerate indicator in the top left reads a stable 20 on the menu screen (crappy notebook, that's normal).
The Menu BGM works, and I assume the background scene it produces is there... Somewhere. Rolling over the menu options produces a sound, and from that I can figure out where they are. Pressing the top option and then return (New game / Black Mesa Inbound) starts the game (I can hear the train sounds and the announcer's voice). The bottom option and return causes the game to close normally.
Still getting the same console errors, though. bms/glshaders.cfg appears to be gone in the latest public beta, so deleting it isn't something I can test.
Its early access with bugs being fixed right now. Ffs wait like half a year for the full release be patient.
I can't start the game using -dev. Is there any trick ?
The Helicopter Explosion from Surface Tension still crashes. With this Engine Error.
IVP Failed at /var/lib/jenkins/workspace/BlackMesa/src/ivp/ivp_physics/../ivp_collision/ivp_mindist_minimize.cxx 827
So I found an unconventional solution to the Black Screen on Startup problem: I bought a new computer, and that apparently fixed it.
... Not something I'd recommend for anyone else, tbh, unless you're already doing that.
Unfortunately, I've got a new problem. The game starts up fine, but the only chapter that seems to load is Black Mesa Inbound, even if I unlock later chapters in the console. That chapter doesn't load properly either, it crashes to desktop on the first level load area on the train ride, leaving:
Anyone else seen this error?
System specs:
I'm running the BMS Public Beta.
A question here. I just read about the Xen update and reinstalled the game. It won't open. The steam item in game list attempts to run the game, gets to syncing and then returns to the original waiting state. I can repeat this but it's all the same.
Did someone deal with this? Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS here. The game used to run fine on this same box. I have whatever Steam was selling.
Thanks.
Here is what I get as an error
Is there intent to ultimately make the purchased instance working without side installs and hand-patching outside the Steam? If the pruchased instance of Black Mesa will be fixed in the end for Linux, I'd just move to Windows to see the Xen, cause frankly I just wanted to have a peek and had ended up debugging things I don't have the power to build myself. Or do I?
If Linux release is officially dead for some users and it won't be fixed, well that'd be outright terrible, but what does running that beta actually entail?
@k00pa?
Hi,
Thanks for the link.
I did have a 'simple' look, but nothing caught my eye. If I was told to 'simply' read e-mail that would have worked for me. :) People can get lost in these forums without using them daily. Mind us who work full days, and were about 20s when the original HL showed up.
I know what you mean, so I'm posting for my own benefit as well as for the benefit of others.
It eluded me for a while too. So are you running 64 bit? If so, you don't need the :386. What are your system specs?
To make sure you are using the updated BETA, right-click on Black Mesa, choose Properties.
Select the BETAS tab and choose the dropdown:
"public beta - This branch is for our public.."
Then, click CLOSE. The Beta version will now be installed.
I totally missed that little tidbit for a couple of months..
TIPS FOR Ubuntu/Mint 64bit NVIDIA users, Continue reading:
if you are 64-bit, then:
If your video driver is less than 390 and Driver Manager doesn't show newer versions then:
You may now have a lot of extra options in Drivers. I went to 396.45, installed any new updates, rebooted, and now I'm able to play the Beta with no more issues so far. BE CAREFUL because some choices cause problems for some systems and you'll spend time in safe mode.
Also, with this setup, I don't need any command options in Properties..
I'm sure there's a similar way for other distros. This is just how I managed after reading through many posts by users that I couldn't tell which install they were using or whether they were using the beta..
HTH
Indeed, same here .
Now, with the public-beta checked out and game showing as such (Black Mesa [public-beta]) from the launch bar, I still cannot start a Xen level. Chapters 16-20 are grayed out. Are they supposed to be available? I am asking because I understand two of them should be. If so, what else do I need to do to get to them?
