Just concentrated myself on defeating the enemies instead of listening to the scientist.
I didn't hear his "Go, NOW!" so I just waited on the access ramp and got killed because of the overloaded portal. XD
Maybe a HEV suit notification would be fine too. Then the right moment to jump into the portal shouldn't be missed ;)
However, when Gordon died, the hat felt into the portal and I got the achievement ^^
But you can jump with Gordon into the portal to see the end credits at least.
However, if you let him jump too early, he is dead.
If you let him wait too long, he is dead.

See?
Nailed it.
It's bugged, we're going to fix it. It doesn't happen all the time, though, but until then, another cue to look for is that there's a bridge which looks like it can be extended out over the portal. It has a bunch of red lights on it. They will all light up when the portal is ready.
I wasn't that bothered about since I just had to play it again to finally unlock the credits.
However, though, it's a funny ending for the purple hat playthrough XD
I was waiting for the scientist to say "It's ready! You must go! Now!" Just like in the original half-life.
Since he never did, I ended up still fighting the flying buggers until... [LOADING...] and I was like, "What...?"
I knew the portal had made a noise and changed into a sphere thing, but that didn't completely tell me if it was still charging up, or if it was actually ready.
That's the bug Chon spoke about ;)
Look into my video, I had the very same issue.
But achievement unlocked, so I didn't care. However, he also confirmed that this will be fixed.
I'm happy
