Odd jumping problem in Black Mesa
I'm about half way through Unforeseen Consequences and I can't make further progress, because I can't jump high enough to jump up on the pipes to continue. I new something was wrong earlier, but I was able to work around the problem by dragging a nearby ladder to the puzzle. No I don't have that option.

To recap, I can jump, just not high enough. The walkthrus on youtube and even here at Steam show players jumping all the way up onto crates, vertically standing barrels, etc. I have 100 health and 84 power and I can't do any of that. w-t-actual-f. Can anyone give a bit of guidance here. TIA:steamsad:

There's a mechanic in the Half-Life games called "jump-crouching." Basically you jump first, and then while you're midair you press the crouch button to tuck your legs in. This allows you to jump up onto higher places.

You can either do it manually (jump, then crounch a split second later), or turn on "auto jumpcrouch" in the options menu.

That was it! Many thanks, I don't recall ever having to use this technique playing HL2. 'Course it's been so long ago...:steamfacepalm:

It's in every FPS game since quake 2, and was a key mechanic in all prior HL games. In the old UI, you can toggle the game to auto crouch jump for you, if you want.

Don't tell me you actually went the way of the DSP and couldn't figure out a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crouch jump...

Please tell me this is bait. Twelve years is easily enough to have even remotely bumped into crouch-jumping as a concept.

Its definitely possible for people to go their lives without playing source games. There's just no excuse however for DSP not grasping the mechanic during the times he was struggling, especially during the start when there was literally a contextual hint flashing on the screen for him.
I suppose I'll give him the benefit of the doubt if you put it like that. However, from what little of his account isn't set to private, he's been on Steam for at least 12 years (assuming this isn't a case of older sibling hands off younger sibling old games after losing interest/going to university/etc.) and has at least 25 games in his library. I figured he'd have enough exposure to PC gaming by at least then.

No, it isn't it. Stop spreading your stupid alternative facts and go back home.

And crouch jumping is needed in maybe one or two very old games only very few even care about nowadays.
