Alien Fly Shooting Gun Feedback
So the alien gun that shoots flies is very bad compared to normal half life.
The flies barely seems to seek out targets and dissapear once they hit a way.

In old half life they were very good at seeking out targets and even if you shot them at a wall they would bounce back and seek out targets very aggressively, aslong as their timer permitted them to exists.

I really think this gun should be fixed so it seeks out targets way better instead of having to nearly dead center aim an enemy for the flies to actually hit and do anything.
It was one of my favorite guns in Half Life. But one of the worst in this game sadly in my opinion cause the seeking is so bad and they dissapear once hitting a wall.

Thay used to do that, but players said they were too difficult to dodge so they removed the homing hornets.
Personally i think the change was for the better.

Thats exactly how it was in old Half Life. Bring it back!!!

On the one hand, the flies are terrible weapons for every enemy EXCEPT for Icthyosaurs.

They stunlock the ♥♥♥♥ out of them, making encounters with them trivial. Even when you're
just shooting one hornet at a time, they just stay stuck in their reaction animation. So in
areas where there are several, just shooting them into the water until they die, or go in
the water and just start shooting.

They are good at engaging enemies while staying out of sight. Atleast in old Half Life.
Not so much in this one.

Was this a change made specifically due to multiplayer concerns? Or were the alien grunt's own hivehands also using super homing bees? I can understand why the latter isn't desirable, but surely there can be a special case set up for the player's own arsenal?

The hivehand is a novelty joke weapon currently, its only real utility is that it technically never runs out of ammo. It deserves a little love.

It deserves to be just like it was in old Half-Life.
Even in the story of Old Half Life they were good at tracking and homing in on you. Its an enemy thats easy to defeat in my opinion aslong as you dont ignore it.
That goes for story and multiplayer. You can easily win in old Half Life if you just fight back with something more than a pistol. Sometimes even with an pistol as it doesnt really do "that" much damage compared to other weapons. Rather weak.
You arent supposed to ignore it but play smart. Keep things between you and the flies and they had a hard time hitting back in the old. And dont just stay in the open. This weapon is now useless, where before it was usefull and fun if playing right. But was never a strong weapon.
Was my favorite weapon cause of the unique way you should play with it.

I'm confused. My Hive hand does exactly what the OP is complaining it doesn't do? I frequently bounce it off walls and around corners to hit enemies, and it's my main weapon in Xen because I can shoot it all the way across a map and the bees will home in when they get even remotely close to enemies.

Are you talking about the enemy version? Or the multiplayer one maybe?

Im talking about when you personally shoot it.
And im comparing from Old Half Life to this game.

Homing hornets are not a big deal, it's the Xen Grunts who shoot 700 bees at one time that is the issue.
This gets really frustrating when you have a flying brain and then 3 grunts in one room. The grunts will kill you with bees in about 15 seconds, but the damn flying brain is raining splash damage plasma at you.

IMO the grunt bees need to be nerfed, they shoot entirely too many at you while being super mobile and dodgin attacks.

Well im talking about you shooting. Not really the enemies.

I think the hivehand is the same for enemies and players in terms of homing, but definitely not so for the Grunts rate of fire.
I was thinking about this a little more. If they would cut back on how many bees the grunts shoot at a time then they can increase the homing power of them.

It's still a decent weapon, but it becomes glaringly unbalanced when you try to use your hivehand against alien grunts.

Looking at it from a player firering it and not an enemy. The homing is really bad compared to old Half Life.

What I'm saying is that the homing seems to be set for bees in general, not different homing ability for player and grunt. I believe it was done to tame the grunt power, but they should have lowered grunt RoF and not the bee homing in general
Xoanon.EXE Jan 19, 2020 @ 11:45pm
Yeah, the player's bees should go back to the homing power they had, otherwise it's just a pistol with unlimited ammo.
SquidNeko Jan 20, 2020 @ 11:17am
I just got to those mentioned fast firering grunts with the Hornet guns. Its not the homing thats the problem. Its the speed at which they can constantly fire. Lol.
