I remember using Nihilanth quotes for screenshots of Mother 2: Gyiyg Strikes Back because it sounded like a good reference for a lovecraitian horror.

Having played Mother in chronological order from the start and knowing the unpopular theory regarding Mother 2's undead Gyiyg post his mental breakdown at the end of the first game, the news of Gray Newell being the basis for the Nilhilanth in the VNN video may take on new meaning.

Albeit Undead Gyiyg was actually based on a memory of a nightmare Shigasato had where a woman's breast gets squeezed into a ball shape, which is something that doesn't actually happen in the film said nightmare was about.

If I recall, one of the creature designers had a knack for inserting sexual innuendo into the aliens.

Mr Friendly was designed by Ted Backman, who when he was young was asked by Ken Birdwell to do some monster sketches, and came up with the cuddly Mr Friendly... He also designed Gonarch. Apparently they wanted to explore innate homophobia present in adolescent boys, and so it kind of expanded from there.
