Compound?
Bought the game tonight, and so far Ive figured out a few things. Got resin, but cannot, for the life of me, find ANY caves to find the compound.

You can find compound on the surface too. Sometimes your landing spot will not have enough of the early game resources needed in close proximity and you have to venture out to find it. Chances are that once you find compound the first time, you will then more than likely find it all over the place. It seems to happen that way a lot in this game.

Something I also noticed is the rate of oxygen drain. I HAD found filters near a broken rover but somehow they poofed off my backpack. I'm not sure if they are limited use or I just acdcidentally tossed them.

Oh and can we say "Organics From Hell"? lol

If you do not have enough tethers to explore the vicinity, you can try to make some oxygene filters with resin, enough to make a few trips around your base till you find compound.

About the filters : They are very short and desappear as soon as they are used.

Compound is grey. It appears as bubbles of different sizes: from tiny to bubbles as big as the PC. As the game starts you will find plenty of it on the surface of your planet, within easy reach of your home shelter.

be careful tunneling down, many of these caves suddenly open up to 50 foot drops into big caverns, which if you can safely get down to them, and ensure you have a way back right area, (Hello back fill from terrain tool and terrain blocks) I found a 2nd science analyzer, and 2 energy thingies forget proper name, but they use carbon.

I found some compound on a nearby hill. Unfortunately I slipped into a hole carrying the compound back to base, and suffocated. The game restarted but I cannot find anymore compound from the place I originally visited.

I found my old backpack near the hole I fell in, but it doesn't contain the compound anymore.

I have tried looking elsewhere for compound. Surveying for grey objects. Some of the hills have grey rocks or grey peaks, but when I get to these locations, it shows up as 'organic' when pointing the Terrain Tool at it, not compound.

I could dig under the surface, but I haven't the faintest where best to start digging to locate what I am looking for.

So I am stuck.

Any suggestions?

Dig anywhere. All the caves underground are all connected; just pick a spot; and head down at a 45 degree angle; be careful and mindful of how you're getting back out; make sure to bring tethers with you so you don't need oxygen filters.

A few tips.

1. Bring some tethers and a soil canister. The tethers for oxygen and the soil canister to help form a bridge/slope to get you out of those holes.

2. It sounds like you may have died after you slipped in that hole and died. Only the last death saves items on the backpack.

3. Compound is everywhere on every planet. It never fails that there is always on mineral that is so difficult to find and then when you finally find it, you'll start seeing it everywhere. After all, compound is a very plentiful mineral and I am a bit surprised that you are still having trouble finding it.

4. Assuming you are on Sylva, you can find compound on virtually every level down to the core.

5. Have you been able to unlock any vehicle like the tractor or buggy? Drive that around on the surface since that has oxygen. Just be sure that you either don't go far from base or place beacons to help you find your way back home.

Thanks xXLaokinXx and Geauxboy, I'll try your suggestions when I next get the chance.

Yes, I'm on Sylva and I've got some tethers but I don't have a soil canister or any vehicles yet. I gather I could make them with the printer if I had the required resources, which I don't.

Gathering resources is the priority at the moment.

You can make a small soil canister with your backpack printer using one resin.

If you are new to the game, I recommend that you make sure you are doing the missions that you get at the landing pad next to your starter base; they give you a lot of stuff to get you started, and will make the early game much easier.

Yes I am new to the game and have already discovered the missions log panel on the landing pad, and am trying to follow it. However there seems a big difference between theory and practice, and it is taking me quite a while to gather the stuff I need.

I found a canister which I believe is a soil canister, so that is no longer an issue.

I have also now found some Compound out in a different hill. I had to setup quite a few tethers to get there. When I got back to base with the Compound, the mission log told me that I have only got 1 of 4 compound, meaning I have to go back out there for three more collections, which I think I can do now. When I have done that, I shall celebrate. :steamhappy:

You should see the resource fill up on the back of your terrain tool. At that point you will hear a chime or ding and the resource will be moved automatically to the back of your back pack, you should be able to collect multiple units of compound at a time.
