But I bet you'd be fine with it, though.
similar to war movies.
white people go to vietnam -> white people kill countless innocent vietnamese children, elderly and adults -> 10 years later white people make movies about how killing all these vietnamese traumatized these poor white men and made them sad :(
-same with iraq war.
btw Lincoln kills a lot of haitians too (not white)
besides that lincoln is heavily hinted as being joe ferro's kid.
the real racism is american english people whitewashing american scots so they could take full responsibility for slavery in america.
i mean, most people don't even know which people in-game are supposed to be scotch-irish.
The main conflict is Lincoln going against white supremacist groups that not only wants to physically commit genocide against Black Americans but has systematically screwed over the Irish, Haitians, and Italians. (In no particular order).
Lincoln himself have explain several times in the optional missions that this trouble doesn't start by him approaching the assailants first. Rather, they have approached him with these attitudes, earliest start was during the VIetnam War. Pastor James mentioned anti-black sentiments within his division during the time he served as a medic.
There's also a quote within the Sign of the Times DLC (or earlier on in the game), that Pastor James reminds Lincoln that a circumstance created to create race division =/= all white people are bad. James reminded Lincoln that while the orphanage was open, there were Catholics and white people who donated food and clothes to the orphans. Lincoln doesn't dismiss that comment. James may be too pacifist for some extreme ends to be met, but he has a point there.
People who miss this aspect that higher classes make profitable business out of turning races against each other with laws created to keep themselves in higher positions.
Sal Marcano is anti-black, but all Underbosses you assist and people like Enzo have remarked that Sal's not just racist. He has a tendency to backstab those who have helped him in the past - regardless of ethnicity.
The reason why the game emphasizes Sal Marcano's hold over the city is because he - in the highest position of brute force and politics - holds control over the extremely radical mindset of supremacist groups such as the Southern Union, Dixie Mafia, and the Ku Klux Klan. That presents himself as a danger to everyone involved, including Lincoln.
There are several non-black characters that gets along with Lincoln just fine.
- There's Donovan, who's Caucasian. He risks his entire undercover career to help Lincoln take revenge, and has constantly reminded him that tolerating these types of people doesn't get rid of the long term attacks.
- Enzo, one of Sal Marcano's lieutenants, has a heel face turn while reminding Lincoln (and the player) that Sal will execute anyone regardless of ethnicity should they disappoint him.
- Lots of pro-desegregation businesses and restaurants has the shop owners telling Lincoln, "Good to see you again, sir," if you walk in.
- Vito Scaletta himself. There's no quotes where he insults Lincoln, Cassandra, or the Haitians based on the color of their skin. He treats them the same as anyone else - You screw with him, you die. Vito has also hired several workers that are amicable towards Lincoln.
- Burke is initially distrusting of Lincoln and does use insults related to skin color as part of his grieving anger at Danny's death. My initial impression is that he was distrusting of Lincoln as Danny took part in the heist that led to the latter's death.
If the roles were reversed, placing yourself in the shoes of a white man who wants to systemically kill off those who have non-white skin color or don't agree with his religious beliefs, I can assure there's several games out there dedicated to that, that may have flown under the public radar in this lifetime on earth.
Ignoring historical context by making posts for a decade-old game (that has several references to such conflicts) is what breeds radically dangerous cultures that will continue to bring those actions to real life.
It does not address the elephant in the room that those with huge power trips have created these divisions out of pure insecurity they could lose those positions one day.
