Calm Lands: Farming

HI guys! I'm new to the ffx game and want to farm a bit before I go to Mt. Gagazet. Do you guys have any tips and tricks I can use for getting thru Guadosalam so I can farm to the other islands like Mushroom Rock, Mi'ihen, Luca, Kilika and Besaid.

What's your goal here, exactly?

Are you just going for monster captures? You have to progress the story enough to not be locked out of certain areas, there isn't really a way around that.

Or are you looking for something else that you're farming for?

It sounds like you just got to the Calm Lands yeah? You can't get past Guadosalam until later, that's just the way it is. You can capture at Calm Lands, Macalanea, Thunder Plains, Cave of the Stolen Faith and Gagazet for now.

Also what Exactly do you mean with "farming" ? Farming monsters for AP, equipment and items? then going back to previous areas is not really worth it.
hunting monsters for the Arena? You can capture some but it would be easier to do it later when you have better travel-options than running.

If it is to strengthen your characters: Just capture the monsters in Calmlands and in the cave up ahead. should be plenty enough to get you strong

There are 2 things you can generally do at this point in the game, not really any point to doing it this early, but i, like you kind of find it funny to be overpowered as soon as possible, so i do this.

#1 get enough money so you can make a weapon that has overdrive -> AP by bribing the mech's in mt gagazet.

#2 get capture weapons that have deathstrike / stonestrike so you can pretty much 1 hit capture anything in the game.

I also like to get yuna the first overdrive -> ap weapon as that makes all the summons in the game insanely op ^_^. Have fun.

used to be, getting to the calm lands opened up the map, but they changed it so you can't go through guadosalam until after you get the airship

I remember going x4 speed all the way back to besaid to pick up the primer and overdrive and going back to beat Yunalesca

You remember wrong. Nothing is different between this version and the original release (unless perhaps it was like that in the original Japanese one but I doubt it)
