It seems to only crash when YRP is involved - not when a team of fiends is fighting. It also doesn't happen for everybody. Some people don't experience this crash, some people experience it rarely, some people experience it all the time.
But why exactly and how to prevent this has been elusive.
Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can cause performance issues and crashes in games.
Compatibility Mode: Try running the game in compatibility mode. Right-click the game executable, go to Properties > Compatibility, and select an earlier version of Windows (like Windows 7 or 8).
Disable Overlays: If you're using any software that creates overlays (like Discord, Steam, or GeForce Experience), try disabling them. Overlays can sometimes interfere with game performance.
Lower Graphics Settings: Temporarily reduce the graphics settings in the game. Lowering the resolution, disabling anti-aliasing, or reducing other graphical features may help stabilize the game.
Check for Mods: If you’re using mods (like Project Untitled X), ensure they are updated to the latest version. Sometimes mods can introduce instability, especially if they conflict with each other.
Verify Game Files: If you're using a platform like Steam, verify the integrity of the game files. This can help replace any corrupted files that may be causing crashes.
Use the 4GB Patch Correctly: Make sure the 4GB patch is applied correctly to the game executable. If you haven't already, try reapplying it to ensure it's properly implemented.
Monitor System Resources: Use a tool like Task Manager to monitor CPU, RAM, and GPU usage while playing. If you see any spikes or resource hogging, it could indicate a problem with another application or background process.
Check Event Viewer: After a crash, check Windows Event Viewer for any error messages related to the game. This may provide clues about what is causing the crash.
Reinstall the Game: As a last resort, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the game. This can resolve any installation issues that might be causing crashes.
Adjust CPU Affinity: Sometimes, setting the game to run on a specific CPU core can help. You can do this through the Task Manager by right-clicking the game process and selecting "Set Affinity."
Use a Different Patch or Tool: If Project Untitled X is causing issues, you might want to try a different patch or modding tool, or even revert to the original version of the game without mods.

X almost never crashes. It's exceedingly rare, outside of mod interference or sub-spec hardware and things like that. And the few crashes that do sometimes occur mostly have specific mechanics behind them that can be replicated and avoided (e.g. killing blow crashes on the Extractor fight).
Whereas X-2 has an unresolved and mysterious crash problem that affects some people but not others and seems to be related to fighting with YRP (does not or only very rarely happen when fighting with fiends). It's as yet unclear what EXACTLY causes this and how to avoid and/or fix it.
