So, how do you play the older FF games?
Born in the 90s, i remember playing the old FF games for a little bit but never understanding the gameplay loop of the FF games or alot of RPGs from Japan(Tales of series, etc.). I've always hit a wall in the ones my older brothers bought and played back then. so how does it work? grind enemies for gil and exp? is there a certain time and place in the game to do that? I've only beaten FF15, played FF6, 7, 10, 13(never beat those four) and I'm currently playing FF16 and it seems in 16 you'll just always be on equal playing field in those two games( 15 and 16) but when playing older FF games back then, I would encounter a boss that would just bulldoze me and become a wall. So i thought i'd buy it for nostalgia and beat the game out of respect. what's the loop of the game?

For example. in Fallout 4 its "Explore -> Combat -> Loot -> Build -> Repeat"
or the Monster Hunter Series "fight small monster -> make gear from small monster -> use the gear to kill bigger monster -> get parts from that bigger monster -> endgame"

the loop of FFX is - go over the game fast - just overkill every single boss
do not miss the many points of no return
at the end - grind 500 hours of Blitzball and 172 hours of Gil

blitz through the early game as soon as you can combat wise nothing will challanged you untill mid to late game. in every jrpg the final boss and the bosses normally leading to it skyrocket in difficulty. not everything in life can be fit into a pattern but there are trends within gameing eras. monster hunter series i assume you mean the recent ones. cause the old monster hunters are insanely more challenging then the current games with all there fancy mechanics lol same with fallout 4 compared to fallout 1/2 they arnt even considered the same game anymore. you are most likly takeing a jump in time you cannot withstand and will crumble under the pressure. try persona 5 royal to get a grasp on what makes these jrpgs are like and build up your tolerence

current day games have alot more bussy work. ment to get your brain moveing and dopamine splashing so even if you stop playing the game halfway you dont go was that even fun? cause the dopamine rush and how they have refined the format down to a T

Did you just age-check us omg I can't even ;)

Well, in general FF games are not exactly known to be super difficult, but the older ones do tend to be a little bit more strategic. You can't just mash buttons and have things happen like you can in many of the more modern ones (like FFXIII-2 that literally has a "just spam" option).

FF games don't really require dedicated grinding to beat story parts, even though some players like to do that just to make it easier (and how well that works depends on the game in question). Most of the grinding tends to be confined to the endgame/postgame content, when it comes to optional superbosses etc. FFX in particular really wants you to go HARD on maxing stats and making all the best weapons if you want to beat the superbosses. But those are optional, extra content. The story part isn't like that.

So, how do you beat the old FF games? You just play them. If a boss seems hard, think about what your options are, and what your characters can do other than just attack. Or if you really must, sit there and grind mooks for half an hour, and you're USUALLY fine. But even that may not be necessary, especially if you're an experienced gamer who reads what abilities do.

okay, Its just cool playing this game again. i'm in the intro basically and saw the cinematic where you get sucked up by Sin. jsut saved in that place where water and ruins is everywhere and saved. These lines are still in my head fro my youth, its so cool. To this day i still remember how confusing and hard the blitzball section is. oh and a boss where as he's attacking you he is pushing you closer to a cliff but you can push him back i think? Tidas' battle stance is ingrained in my brain... don't know much after that, my memories draw a blank.

ffx has been a breakthrough - in case of gameplay and graphics - maybe not in strategy
if you saved in the place of sin and water - you might have missed some stuff already
also if you enter sin before 500 hours of blitzball - blitzball is very easy actually

There's a common thread whenever I go back to older games, and it's that I realize that I must have been a very stupid child, because the things that I once found very challenging or difficult generally turn out to actually be a piece of cake.

But of course that part about having been a stupid child is not really true, or at least I like to think that it isn't. Reality is, times were different back when games like FF10 came out - we all were far less used to gaming, even those of us who played a lot, and a lot of things just seemed a lot more complicated than then actually were.

I think you'll probably realize that quite quickly if you continue playing FF10, because aside from a couple of slightly tricky fights, it's a very easy even without any intentional grinding, and a rather simple game to wrap ones head around.

That being said, grinding for level-ups is always an option that will get you across pretty much any obstacle should you somehow get stuck. So there isn't really any "loop", it's more of a question that you always ask yourself.

Which is, "Can I continue the story?"
-> If yes, follow the mostly straight path and continue the Story.
-> If no, find a decent spot to grind Experience until you can continue the story.

that's what most do - for the 1st playthrough - just have fun and finish the game
but if you go to the community - you get more insight
even in the community there is not all information

FFX - like "0.0038 chance" - or 100 % with savegame
