The items themselves are irrelevant, but the mere act of getting all of the items unlocks a major secret later on (the already mentioned extra aeon, Anima) which in turn is needed for further secrets (specifically unlocking Yuna's Celestial Weapon, which also includes another aeon, the Magus Sisters).

They're okay, but not mindblowing. They'll probably be useful when you get them, but they're not like super amazing or anything.

You get a couple weapons, an accessory for Kimahri, a Magic sphere, a luck sphere, and an hp sphere. The spheres are nice, but you can farm for them later, but keep them anyway.

The weapons and accessory however are not important, throw them away if you want, once you have the celestial weapons you won't care about anything else really.

But yes, get them all, the act of using all of the destruction spheres in all of the trials is required for a sidequest later. It's highly recommended to do it now, because without spoiling anything, you will regret it later if you don't.

The unlock happens as you open the chest - you can see the little seal pop up as you do, which is the same as the seal that you unlock later. That's why the chest in Bevelle that unlocks the seal is the one at the end of the maze that you HAVE to open to progress (since you can't ever return to Bevelle temple) rather than the bonus one you can earn in addition to that.

The items themselves are irrelevant, you just need to open the destruction sphere chests and you're good. Chuck the items, sell them, smoke them in a pipe, doesn't matter.

Getting all of them unlocks two very useful things down the line. And at least two of those areas become very difficult to return to later on in the International Version.
