Tidus disappears behind the backround
Hello.
It's kinda a minor bug, but maybe ther is a fix.

As the title suggests there are graphical issues in my game.
At some places in the game the backround is in front of Tidus (and NPCs).
I think it's best described as a layer-problem. I can walk through a wall of backround texture and be visible/invisible or in between.

The most places with this issue are those with Animation in the backround.
Good examples are the monsterfarm and the flying ship (most doors and the room before and with the blitzball players.

Tried many things, but nothing worked:
  • Tried ingame graphical settings (turned everything to low and different windowsettings).
  • Deactivated ingame overlays.
  • Reinstalling the game.
  • Graphic drivers reinstalled (Even two different graphics cards, nvidia and amd same issue).
  • Vanilla and Untitled Project X same thing.
  • Some windows compatibelity settings.

I am at a loss, but maybe you know?
Thanks in advance.

Without pictures or video I can't really tell if what you're experiencing is in fact a glitch. There are in fact areas where Tidus isn't visible on screen due to him being behind walls, pillars, boxes, and other things. At times like that the mini-map is key to navigating.

I tried searching known glitches and bugs for FFX but I didn't find anyone else with this problem. If you have any mods or have altered the game or save files in any way that may be causing glitches. I've played FFX since it came out and on multiple platforms and have never experienced a glitch like that. If you have any mods installed I'd remove them and do a clean installation of the game to see if that fixes the problem. Other than that I'm sorry but I don't know what to tell you.

Here is a Video
If you think this should be as it is, let me know ;)

As stated I had the bug with Vanilla and modded. I did everything you said and more. No success.

This is just a lesser nuisance. So I won't experiment anymore for myself.

I'd suggest verifying your install, except I'd imagine a reinstall would be just as good. Have you tried installing it to another drive? Maybe there's some problems with where it's installed. You might try running a diagnostic tool to see if the drive is healthy. That's all I can think of.

Yeah, I did verify it, but let's try it.
First it was on my HDD and reinstalled it on the SSD.
Til now, i didn't think about a diagnostic tool. I will try that.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm assuming you might also be using Untitled X project and the textures from the guy on nexus mods.

It's not huge, but it's confusing enough that I didn't plan on continuing the game if I can't resolve it.

Not the topic creator, but this layer problem occurs also without Untiteld X project and/or additional texture mods. I've encountered this issue as soon as the start of the game once the first cutscene in the stadium is over or in Bersaid, when you enter the huts/tents (except the one with the save point). I have this exact issue. It seems to be device dependent. I don't remember having this issue previously, but when I installed the game on the ROG Ally (Ryzen Extreme edition), I ran into this issue. I then installed it on my laptop which has an Intel i7-10870H and an RTX 3080 using the direct device to device install option, and my laptop did not have the same issue utilizing the same save files. This is on vanilla. Maybe it depends on the graphics card being utilized?

It took me a while to find this thread as previous comments were right, there's not many reports of this bug online but I'm also currently experiencing it! I've been trying to just play through it but I must admit, it's quite frustrating. As with the previous comment, I'm also playing on a ROG Ally and it's the first game I've even had a minor hiccup with so far! Such a strange issue. I wish I could help, but I'm commenting mainly to subscribe to the discussion in the hopes someone smarter than me can work out a fix 😅

It's an 7900XTX bug. Maybe RDNA3.
Mahou86 Jun 29, 2023 @ 5:56am
According to the Thread Creator, it also happens on Nvidia, though the other 2-3 topic about it were also with the AMD7900 XTX; I have the issue also with the 7900 XT.
Ginko Jun 29, 2023 @ 9:43am
mine is 7900xt too and have the same issue

After some testing, it's definitely an issue with the GPU.
When I tested it on my old gaming PC with a GTX 970 and with my current gaming PC with the integrated GPU of the 7700X CPU, the background merging glitch/bug didn't occur.

Same problem here.
No problem with a 5700xt, but with the 7900xt its always like this.

This is happening on the ROG Ally but it works fine on my desktop PC (RTX 3090). Not sure if/when AMD is going to release a fix but this is frustrating.
