is a shame though, during my latest playthrough i found a "evade and counter" ball
wish tidus would just jecht shot enemies with it but ohh well.
Because thats Status Reels. Most people know its useless and always use Attack Reels which if you time it right, hits with 99,999 damage 12 times.
Why?
Rikku's overdrive, "Mix", is very very useful in many boss batles.
Tidus' overdrives "Slice & Dice" and "Blitz Ace" are decent damage dealers.
Wakka's overdrive, "Attack Reels", is a very powerful damage dealer, it's worth the time playing blitzball for getting it.
Also those are the only characters that can fight underwater.
For earlier game states, I can totally see how Auron is great. Even during early endgame he can be very effective, using him on 1 HP to wreck your way through Omega and Juggernaut is a great strategy.
A lot of bosses (pre-zanarkand) can get inflicted by status effects tho even if it is only a minor effect like sleep (Wendigo Boss), Silence (Seymour Flux), Poison (Seymour Natus/Flux) Blind (a lot of bosses), but these can be inflicted much easier with Rikku.
The Final Team after reaching max Stats (255STR/DEF/etc) would probably be Tidus and Wakka all the time, the last Slot can be anyone, since the Overdrives aren't that great anymore of most characters at this point and are mainly used for some extra utility (Aurons Banishing Blade for Full Break, Rikkus Mix for different things, Yuna for Overdrive Aeons like Anima/Magus Sisters).
Early Game on, everyone can be somewhat viable tho (Lulu's Overdrive vs Chocobo Eater is usualy a guaranteed knockdown, Kimahri has some semi usefull overdrives like Stone Breath, Fire/Aqua Breath ignoring MDEF of the enemy, Mighty Guard).
Fun Fact, Lulus Overdrive can be one of the best early on if you mix Trio of 9999 with Rikku, since you can get more hits with it then Tidus and his Slice&Dice and BlitzAce by using a low level spell like Fire.
Wanted a change as when I played this on ps2 I used Wakka Auron Lulu, i love seeing Rikku hit 99999 with her tiny little weapons.
Next playthrough I'm gonna have some fun, Mage Kimahri, Str Lulu and Auron casting buffs / debuffs etc.
