ugh....butterflies...

200 lightning bolts were annoying but doable, the chocobo race wasnt a problem, but the butterflies seem to be the bane of my existance. I just found out that the game gets MUCH harder if you happen to do it after you unlock the airship...Just tried around 20 times and I still cant get it. It's really frustrating to tell where the butterflies are in the background...

You cannot get the saturn sigil before the airship.

You should try being colour blind. If i can do the butterfly's, you can to.

There's nothing to it. just touch every butterfly and memorise which ones go ting and which go duh da duh da duh dur dur dur.

It's annoying at first, but it's just a matter of remembering the path and where to avoid the red ones. A couple parts can be deceiving and tricky. I think it's more annoying because you can't just flee the battles. Anyway just try going the opposite direction to avoid the red ones and if it works then remember it. It's all about memorization. I also recommend putting your brightness up so you can see all of the butterflies as a couple of the red ones are hidden or harder to see if it's darker.

The butterflies always seem to fly in the same pattern, so if you memorize whether they are high or low you can easily run through from start to finish. Took me a few tries but it honestly isn't hard. Chocobo racing is way tougher.

Top is 40s version bottom is 30s version. If you are having problems open the map on a second monitor. You can pause the game while collecting butterflies at any time to peruse the map and make sure you are on the right track. The camera sucks in most situations here and you should rely on the map and curve around the butterflies even when it looks as if you will hit them.

Well, I did northern Macalania at the 1st try and southern at the 2nd.
Just take the corners in a slight angel, you can even hit 2 butterflies and still win.

I used the map in the official piggyback guide to do the butterflies. I found them very easy compared to Catcher Chocobo and found them much less annoying than the lightning bolts. I would pause after each butterfly, check my map about which side I should run along to get the next one and did it that way.

Finally did it yesterday. It was pretty annoying because the game felt more like doing trial and error, but if you know where to move then it gets easier. The minigames in this one are pretty terrible except blitzball imo.

With 3D Vision, the butterflies minigame is a lot easier because you know exactly where they are.

I could never do it on the PS2, and here it took me a few minutes.
