Does auto-med, auto-phoenix etc. actually use your items?

Yes, and they obviously stop working when you run out. Not really a problem though, those items cost pretty much nothing by the time you can get those abilities and there's only very few fights where you could be in danger of running out (none if you do it right).

Just a few things:
- If you get hit with 2+ statuses at once, auto-med tries to use a Remedy. If you don't have one, it will use 1 item to cure one of the statuses, and leave the other(s)
- Auto-med won't activate if you get Berserked or Confused
- Auto-phoenix won't use Mega Phoenix
- Auto-potion won't use Elixir or Megalixir
- Very rarely, auto-phoenix won't activate. It usually happens if the character dies during an ambush
