So... the FFX-2 aka "Charlie's Angels", is it worth it ?
So i already played FFX some time ago and now it was the first time i actually finished the game, it is kinda short if you are not going after celestial weps/high-tier customization etc. imho but that's not the thing.

The thing i want to ask is FFX-2, i have never played it before and now i have tried it for several minutes and I really feel, that I need to ask - is it worth it ? I mean story wise mostly, because i think i can get used to active type of fight and even Yuna's Dancing(literally, wth i this?!), but after Eternal Calm animation i thought, that it will actually make sense, but it isn't. Out of nowhere there's new character(Paine was her name i belive) and the whole beggining of the game looks like some kind of parody of Charlie's Angels.

It's not, that I'm complaining, because I already had a good time with FFX, but X-2 is... something different. No spoilers pls, i know the game is around for a while, but still ;p

Well, the dancing isn't the only thing she'll do, that's due to the dress sphere she has at the time (think of it like the jobs in other FF games). It gets better.

Story wise... I dunno. It's nice to see the aftermath of the 'save the world' quest (aka FFX) where people try to adjust to the new living conditions and cope with the changes. If that's not your cup of tea, then I'd still suggest you stay for the gameplay, but that's up to you.

I believe the technical term is "selling out."

As to your question, though, that's going to be really hard to answer. You're games list is pretty short so we can't compare it to games you've played a lot. The only hint we've got is that you actually know who the Charlie's Angels are. ;) So it's kinda like coming in and asking us if you'll like BBQ'ed shrimp or not. All people can do is tell you if they liked it or not.

Yuna's dancing? Do you mean the concert at the start? or the dress sphere malfunctioning? One is not Yuna.... the other is the dress sphere malfunctioning Both of which are explained in the first ten minutes of the game.

Paine's presence is explained and is quite closely tied into the game's plot.

Now let's wait for the inveitable post from Cat Daddy with his list of things innaccurate description of the things from the game or things which are not even present in the game.

A bit cringy at times, but otherwise it's not too bad. Good amount of freedom to do what you want unless you aim for the 100% completion (you'll have to stick to a walkthrough in this case, so many micro events that counts towards it)

I meant the whole "dancing" thing, i checked dress sphere's and seems like it's part of the game(class for buffs/debuffs i guess?). Some battles might look like korean music videos -.-' Not that i have something aggainst those, but this doesn't feeled like a part of FF universe at all.

Anyway thanks guys for clearing some things up.

Dolan pls, this game has no story and is completely based on fan service, the only thing which is really good is battle system. Generally game is better than XIII series, worse than the whole rest.

The game does have a story which you admitted to before.

The only one which would somewhat match that description would be the songstress dress sphere but certainly not to the extent that gets suggested regarding it.

Fan service love hunting is not story.

Sure if you like it's not as if you're even providing any description there.

The game is only really Charlie's Angels for the first episode or two, out of 5, after that it gets way more Serious Business... as Serious Business as you can get when Rikku is a main character anyway.

In X while shes is the closest to the comic relief character but even then is serious during the majority of the game. X2 however exaggerates this quite a lot.

Kate Jackson - Yuna
Farrah Fawcett - Rikku
Jaclyn Smith - Paine
David Doyle - Brother

I guess it's safe to not take your opinion seriously since you didn't play the game lol

My short answer is yes, my long answer is long, so bear with me.

I love FFX-2 and not for its fanservice, or the occasionally cringeworthy sidequest, but for the fact that it adds both depth to the FFX world through taking up story hints seeded in the first game, and that it tries hard to actually show progress in a world which for the first time in a millenium no longer has an ancient evil hanging over it.

Yes it's light hearted.....to start with, but right around the middle of chapter 2 it's already on its way to being darker, and by the end of the game I'd argue that it's bleaker in many ways than FFX was, because in the first game the evil was external, by en large. Sin was the big evil that everyone was focussed on. In the second game the evil is much more personal, it's the dark evils of people, some of whom have good intentions and some who do not, that drives much of the plot.

Paine's plot specifically with regards to the Den of Woe and the Crimson Squad is utterly heartbreaking if you follow it through.

Is there fanservice? Sure there is. But there's also real narrative progress, there's good explanations for WHY Yuna has flipped her personality (getting out from under a death sentence would improve anyone's mood) and there is a surprisingly complex and mature story if you can dig through the trop layer of dirt.

Despite the fact that a lot of people are turned off by the opening sequence, I'd suggest playing it through to the end. If you enjoyed the first game, I think you'll like the second.

The story becomes darker, but remains cheesy throughout the game. I'd say it's really about whether you're interested in seeing how the world has progressed since FFX or whether you want a "grand story". There's a lot of great narrative about how areas and people have changed, but the main story is more of a limping horse dragging you through the good content.

I can't dispute that it remains cheesy, but I will disagree about the nature of it as a grand story. For whatever the term is worth, the growth and change from largely disinterested sphere hunters to saving Spira from a threat as acute as Sin, and one that was foreshadowed in the previous game no less is 'grand' enough for me. Of course, your mileage may vary as with any work but I really think calling it a limp horse is doing it a disservice.

The game is cheesy from the beginning through the end. However, opposite to some peoples opinion, there actually IS a story, at least. Dialogues get ridiculous sometimes, so this may not be your cup of tea and the overall-feel of the game is a lot more light-hearted than in X, even in the darker second half of the game. You revisit most the locations of X and see what happened after X - thats what basicially this game is all about. This isn't as much fanservice as people claim it to be. Yes, of course, the custume switching animations surely are (you can switch them off), all the "charlie's angels" posing is, the catchphrases are, the bathing in the hot spring surly is. But besides that, most of the changes are explained... you get to know why Yuna is how she is now (well, actually, considering the burden she droped after X should explain such a change by itself...), you get to know who Paine is and why she is there and you get to know why they are adventuring again and what or who they are looking for. The now reintroduced ATB battle system feels great, there is enough content within the game, so if you are able to ignore some fairly cheesy scences you'll probably got a entertaining time out of X-2. It's not X with it's epic storyline and great presentation of it, but it also is in no way as bad as people try to make it.
