Get good.

But no really just keep trying. There is no rhyme, reason, logic, or pattern to this.
Now I ignored this BS and just enjoyed it to the end....
this is kinda easy compared to that since you can have luck affect the result
took me 30 trys simply because of bumping into the walls due to bad controls that change as the camera moves compared to the 6 trys for 0 0 0
That part is significantly easier than the training. The problem is that there are elements of both that are random AF and sometimes the other chocobo goes twice your speed, sometimes it's slow. You have to memorize the route, turn perfectly, and keep restarting until you get a slow chocobo opponent.
That one has a pattern that never changes and you will always be able to follow it. The catcher is complete bullsh*t and has no pattern. Sometimes there are 8 sh*ttons of balloons right at the beginning and you just have to get them then not screw up, sometimes there are 17 birds that hit you in a row because it stunlocks you.
I got to a point where I actually had my friends on PS3 upload their saves and I did it for them, took a couple min, because it was at least better than the hyper bullsh*t catcher.
you can get a perfect run for the 0 0 0 easily if the opening balloons are in a row and you get in front to bait the birds to hit the trainer, just takes practice
But that's no fun.
On the contrary.
I'd say that sticking it to the obviously overly sadistic developer that was in charge of designing these particularly abysmal minigames is an exceedingly large amount of fun if you imagine their smug facial expression being ground down into dust over time, with each and every person that cheats their way through.
Certainly more fun than actually playing the mini-game straight up 'as intended'; that's for sure.
A shame really; FF X is incredibly well designed from a game systems perspective and then the chocobo and lightning dodging mini-games crap all over that.
After the turn two birds will go for the catcher, two for you, make sure you dont get hit and she does. Then its a bit luck of the draw the position of the baloons between you and the end as you still have to dodge the birds that target you, only tap the direction change, dont over do it.
The cheat engine table I used for the lightning dodges does have a section for this, I didnt use it but it is there if you find this too frustrating.

I had Valfaris use its overdrive twice because the Chocobo eater kept missing when attacking Valfaris and the overdrive gauge filled itself all the time it missed xD
so yea make sure you have your aeons on full overdrive before fighting that thing and its easy.
