Difference between Celestial Weapons and Custom Weapons
Is there any difference between a Celestial weapon and an awesome custom weapon? Are there any hidden abilities that celestial weapons have, or are celestial weapons only good for the abilities they state?

I think Celestial weapons ignore defence and do more dmg the more hp you have aswell.

They allow some break damage limits for aeons. Li is also right in that they ignore the enemies defense.

"Celestial Weapons are not more powerful than a normal weapon; at full HP/MP, they do the same damage as a normal weapon would if the enemy had 0 Defense. However, Auron is an exception as his Masamune does 100% damage at 70% of his max HP, and as he drops further the weapon exceeds 100% damage. For anyone else, full HP is 100% damage, 1 HP is about 9.1% damage."

Each powered up weapon may also let an Aeon break the damage limit, and has an attack bonus (e.g. more attack power when percentage of HP is higher).

Just add 20% Strenght instead of double AP on your custom weapon and it will do just fine (99 999 dmg per hit).

This is not true against some of the more serious enemies, who have ludicrous DEF values. While you could certainly do without an affix (most Celestial Weapons have at least 1 that is fairly useless), the fact that you really need to consistently do max damage against superbosses makes the Celestial Weapons a no-brainer choice.

Note however that there are some customizable weapons that do more damage than others. Weapons dropped by Bombs, for example, do more damage for some inscrutable reason (not sure if this was addressed in the HD remaster) but cannot have 4 slots. Weapons dropped by Nemesis will have a higher base critical hit chance (and CAN have 4 slots). Still, even accounting for all this, Celestial Weapons are just better.

By the way, the HP factor is almost irrelevant if you optimize your stats/gear. Against any Dark Aeons you'll have max damage at max STR even at 50% HP (i.e. after an Auto-Phoenix) and against Penance you'll always be at max HP during your turns (due to Auto-Potion).
