Penance....-_-
This is my first time playing the international version. I really wanted to try out this boss so I grind and grind and grind... got everything. 3 characters 255 on all stats cept acc and evasion. Made the armor auto haste, auto protect, def %20, and auto potion. After 2 hours of fighting him twice i lost...This is so frustrating. After all that self inflicted masochistic grind and he is still really hard to beat. I respect that the end game boss is super powerful, but I was not expecting this. All the previous ff games I beat the super boss with ease, but this boss takes the cake.

Just wanted to vent out my frustration. I keep dying on the 2nd form, I have a feeling my sequence of moves are wrong. Maybe I might try out the bhpl armor strat instead. Any tips would be appreciated. I enjoy tough boss fights, but when u fight one for more than an hour and u lose, it just crushes ur soul that you have to sit throught it all again.

I couldnt keep up with his immobulation move that one shot 1 member on ur team. That combine with trying to take out the arms was too much and eventually I just got overwhelmed and the arms both regen back together and kill me.

Immolation shouldn't be one shotting you with that armor. Did you have five stacks of Cheer up? Did you have any breaks inflicted on your party? In case you didn't know, after an ally gets hit with Immolation, you need to dispel the breaks it inflicts.

I did not know that move causes break. Thats probably y his move one shotted me. I didnt dispel the breaks. Thanks for that. I'll try again tmrw.

Is it not possible to kill him with Jojinbo´s Zanmatou? I thought this will work on every boss.

Auto Pheonix really should be on at least 2 character's armor.

Use Auto Haste/Auto Phoenix/Auto Potion. Make sure you have x-potions. Also, use Celestial Weapons if you aren't already.

I recommend having Tidus go for the body, and Rikku and Wakka go for the arms. Everytime he uses Obliteration, you're good to go with HP.

When it uses Immolation, you should be covered with the Auto Phoenix. Have all characters on Stoic or Warrior overdrive modes. Use whatever overdrive you want with Tidus, and use Mix with Rikku and Attack Reels with Wakka.

Last ditch effort: Grind for max gil and use Zanmoto.

Nope, it doesnt. It does however inflict all kind of Break statuses. So if you dont Dispel after his 1st immob hit, that character will get a guaranteed 99,999 on the next attack. Use Rikkus Limit Null All to get cheer x5 status on your team. That makes it so that his attacks only do about 8.

For healing: Remember that Trio of 9999 makes it that every potion heals you for 9999 HP, even the base tier ones. So if you feel that 99 X-potions are not enough keep that in mind.

As for the Armor: you already posted the ultimate Penance one in your starting post. Auto-Phoenix is useless as you are supposed to keep your party alive all the time

Last thing: Stick to Quick hit unless Penance is about to get a turn when both Arms are out. For an imergency kill of the Arms either use Blitz Ace or Attack Reel x12.

The last thing for sure: for the Overdrive mode use Comrade

I haven't gotten to this boss yet, however I should point out that it's extremely helpful to put auto-phoenix on your equipment. It doesn't matter if someone dies because they will just get revived immediately.

No do not use auto pheonix. Losing turns from people dieing just leads to more and more death. I'm not talking about using pheonix downs, just the fact of a character dying makes them miss turns. Your armor for this boss is spot on. now that you have realised you weren't dispelling the breaks you should beat it.

Left arm first(your left)
Right arm second
Main boss.

Use Auron,Tidus or Wakka's OD to catch up on any damage. Ideal team is Rikku,Auron and Wakka/Tidus. Auron for his first strike ability on celestial weapon and it's a great idea to have collected all 10 jecht spheres for his Tornado overdrive which will hit everything for guaranteed 2x99,999. Great for catching up on dmg.

Use a twin stars to make abilities cost 0 mana. Quick hit spam is a must. Dispel breaks. Comrade mode OD mode. Go in full with OD guage. Use Mix to cast Ultra Null-all. Then get to quick hit spam.

The fight will take a long time, ~30 mins but with this strat no one should die at all.
