As for magic attack, well as you might have guessed, it is only used for magical attacks, so while it IS pretty useless early on on non-spellcasters (including Tidus) it might come in handy eventually if you send him down Yuna's or Lulu's path, or if you learn any offensive spells with him.
Again it's pretty much entirely optional, as offensive magic pretty much isn't required at all throughout the game, except to take care of flans or take advantage or enemies weaknesses.
You do not need to level everyone, though if you plan to do post game content (the arena, dark aeons, Penance) Wakka, Tidus, and Rikku are undeniably the best characters to use (everyone's stats will be equal, the only difference is the abilities on their celestial weapon and their overdrives)
Sure, it can get a little tedious, but I find it better than realising someone's drastically under-powered and grinding them up later.
Also, use the 'Extract Speed/Magic etc' abilities as much as possible; putting points into seemingly useless stats isn't an issue when you're drowning in spheres :)
Do so, As he's the blue mage of this game. A jack of all trades, but a master of none. He's pretty much a joke. (which is a shame, Since I find him cool)
And some bosses (story or optional) its a lot easy with party changing.
EDIT:sorry didnt see Charllize´s post
You can also just guard by pressing Y (Xbox controller) / Triangle (PS controller). It's a quick action and totally counts for getting AP.
Kimarhi 2nd choice (make him Rikku) Only cause you have you fight solo with him later on, And neglect everyone else.
Aeons cover magic needs and you can teach them spells easily enough if you use steal alot. Lulu is now redundant.
Using customise and sacrificing a lvl 1 keysphere for the PIERCING on a weapon removes slow ass Auron from the team.
Rikku is a great character however she's far more useful as a pain magnet come power leveling time.
Big hits + low health = Drowning in EXP
I'm like you OP. I found it extremely tedious having to switch out characters all the time. A royal pain in the rear even, so I just stopped and focused on those I liked the best. (Eventually I beat the game with several different paties in several different play-throughs, so you're really not limited to specifics by any means)
