Seriously, I'm using a keyboard right now and it's just not possible.
The game suggests left and right arrow on keyboard
I gotten to 5 with the left and right arrow
On the other hand I can't use the controller at all compared to the PS2/PS3 version. My right stick must be set up incorrectly or something.
This is questionable. Using a Razer Black Widow Chroma, i can macro the press/release and time between and have done so. There is something application-side that is very narrow or limiting.
Using 0.1 seconds or less interval with average tap macro on continuous yeilds 3 overdrives early in the game at Kil. Temple (this is faster than a person can tap left and right). Slowing the interval down to .4 was able to yeild 4 overdrives at the same path (next to Boss Orcha).
I conclude that the game itself (with keyboard input. i have steam controlers that ive not tested yet on account of very poor steam controler mapping options) only accepts X interval. which is a high enough interval that you can only get 3-4 at present for early game charcters (20 magic).
Only thing I can be sure about is that, via standard install, an very high rotation macro (32-45 left-right cycles in 3 seconds) netted 3 overdrives, but slowing that down to 20 cycles in 3 seconds netted 4 overdrives.
I this is Lulu with a magic stat of 20. Once i can increase to 35 as one post reported, ill try various rates again and report back if the findings are different (it would be nice and logical if higher magic upped the multiplier so you didnt have to try to squeeze water out of a walnut, so to speak, or are otherwise able to get decent results on the keys).
Hard to compare the inputs (and ill update if i find where to edit this modifier or a means of doing so) but i think its safe to say the port just made it much harder for keyboard.
with the steam controller. just go into the controller configs. choose left thumb stick and in the corner youll see mode shifting. click that. then make it go for joystick move and right thumbstick.. then set the button for left grip. now whenever you press left grip it will make the left thumb stick become a right one.
At least with controllers, you need to input enougn degrees of rotation to get a cast of the spell. Higher end spells, like Fira, Thundaga, Flare... all need more rotation. Raising Magic stat reduces the rotation needed.
By 255 Magic, Lulu can get something like 24 uses of the basic spells, like Fire, but still has issues getting beyond 5 to 8 casts of Flare and Ultima.
Using the left and right arrows on keyboard works in place of actual rotation, and could even permit higher casts than normal, but the mechanics are otherwise the same.
