Script To Dodge Lightning.

Why? Because writing a script is more fun than this tedious challenge. Plus I did it twice on PS2 and PS3, and I'm NOT doing it again.

Remove the spaces, dumb steam filter bot is removing it for no reason.

How to use it:

1- Run FFX and go to the Thunder Plains.

2 - Extract and run the exe. The script has no GUI, just some Hotkeys:

Page Up = Enable the script, the script starts disabled.
Page Down = Disable the script, only enable the script in game, diable it otherwise.
Home = Terminates the script.

3- Go to the game, and enable the script by hitting Page Up, USE THE KEYBOARD TO MOVE. Using the pad will NOT work.

4- Run around or find a place where Tidus jump in place infinitely, a beep will sound with every strike to tell you that the script is running and enabled.

5- Done, don't forget to hit HOME to close the script after you are done, and do not Alt-Tab the game without disabling the script.

This comes with no guarantees Blah Blah Blah, you can reach 199 then the thunder will strike you in real life Yada Yada Yada.

This worked for me in every part I tested it in, if it does not work for you in any part of the map you tried, then change the PixelGetColor coordinates to the middle pixel of your screen, or change the color 0xCD0000 if you have different brightness not suited to this value. If all else fails, disable Aero, it should fasten up WinAPI's "GetPixel" which "PixelGetColor" is based on.

Total overkill though tbh. If you're going to cheat to get the 200 jumps it takes 2 minutes tops to do it with CE.
It's the butterfly ones I'm dreading. I don't see the chocobo catcher being too much of a pain if I search for the # of balloons and bump that right up. But timers are always a pita to search for.

Please explain how to use CE to do this. I use CE all the time, and I have no idea what to search for.

only challenge in the game thats actually hard. chocobo catcher takes me like within 10 tries, butterfly thing 10 tries as well for each side.

but for the lightning.....whole day, never again.

well, its either this or abuse the fixed spawn for 15 minutes. Did it on the Vita and PS2 version already so its the "Tool Assisted Dodges"

Check out what the script sais. It checks the center pixel of your screen for the white of the pre-strike flash. So as long as the game covers that point and your brightness settings fir you should be good

I searched for 'byte' 'exact value' because even though you could go higher than 255 dodges, you don't actually need to.

- Attached the game to CE.
- In Thunder Plains after doing the cutscenes at Rins to make sure it was ready to award me prizes.
- DODGE! Search for 1
- DODGE! Search for 2
- Got to 4 before I had it down to 4 choices. 5th dodge I saw only 1 option go to 5.
- Set that to 199. DON'T lock it.
- DODGE! This flags you 200 and the sigil. Go get it man.

Obviously just go to the menu between dodges. To stop the actual game as such whilst you search and stuff.

And yeah.. I don't think you're going to get a ban for using 3rd party cheats, on a game that they shipped with cheats that break the game from the off dude.

In fact I've come across only 2 games that I own on Steam that has any sort of anti-cheat protection regarding offline single player parts of a game.

Both have online parts to them so I can see why they have anti-cheat parts built in though. But it heavily impacts on the offline mode too.

Racedriver GRID. - Just point blank shuts down if you try to start it with CE loaded. Or if you boot CE with GRID running.
Not a massive problem to single player cheat on anyway considering they forgot to check whether the AI car config file is even there when you start the game.

GRID 2 - They obviously got wise to deleting the AI config file from the comment above. And doing that on GRID 2 disables all progress, saving, achievements etc.
BUT!! They messed up and CE works on it again. HA!

It's great this exists since more options is always good, but as long as FFX has been around and most people still don't know the crater trick. You'd think it'd be common knowledge. A nearly fool proof strategy that takes no more than 20 minutes. And yet this topic is full of people acting like the great evil that is lightning dodging has finally been overthrown. It's been overthrown for many years ever since the crater trick was discovered.

I might try it normally. It wasn't bad when I muted the TV and used my peripheral vision in a dark room to time my presses (while manipulating the flashes with the special spot). But it's nice having this if I decide doing it legitimately in the past was quite enough. Thanks.

This reminds me of how I read of someone wiring up a light sensor to a controller in order to do it.

Seems to me that a script to do the butterflies would be extraordinarily difficult (if not impossible) to code.

Like JoanOfSnark said, FFXED is the way to go if you're going to cheese this game.

For the Chocobo Racing, just use Cheat Engine, and force number of Balloons collected to some high number (anything above 15 would probably work). And force the amount of Birds hit to 0.

For Butterflies, use Cheat Engine to freeze the timer (it just sounds like finding the timer offset would take a lot longer).
