Poor Lulu. Her sphere grid path just isn't very good.
Speed is very important in this game and the last thing you want is to bring in an excruciatingly slow party member (Auron and Lulu) and never be able to take them out because their next turn doesn't occur any time soon. Lulu also has arguably the worst overdrive.

If you teach Yuna some black magic, she becomes a better black mage than Lulu. Even with just a couple spells.

Auron suffers from the same problems to an extent. Slow party members are a burden.

Lulu is one of the easiest characters to do a one character only challenge on.
Double Cast flares/ultima is sooooooo good, especially when you have a weapon with 1mp cost + magic booster + break damage limit
She is strong the whole way through the game as well, assuming you are targetting weaknesses.

Auron has both incredible hitting power and very useful abilities like Power/armor break, Sentinel and Entrust.

that's why you have Tidus.... I just give them haste and they go super Saiyan!!
Scarlet Crusade 13 maj, 2016 @ 15:55
Still better than Kimahri.
Viper 13 maj, 2016 @ 16:01
Kimarhi seems to be pretty useless.Althoguh later in the game it easy to take him up Lulus tree and give him Mage abilities.

Kimahri can learn White Wind and Mighty Guard overdrives, which are very good for most of the game, but Rikku can use her Mix overdrive to make far more potent effects so his usefulness is rather limited later on.

Plus I never really liked Kimahri anyway.

Part of Auron's early game advantage in power comes from his weapon's piercing ability. Other than that, his strength does not make up for his abysmal speed. His advantage in skills is easily fixed by teaching another character those skills through various methods. Better to give any Agility spheres to an already fast character to make them even faster rather than waste them on Auron and Lulu just to give them acceptable speed.

Wakka is the best candidate to teach the break skills. Even if he doesn't know all of the break skills, it's still a better set up than bringing slow old man Auron into the party. Even better if you give Wakka any extra strength spheres.

Lulu and Auron's low agility is just crippling.

Same problem as what I talked about above. Haste merely brings them from horrible speed to okay speed. Better to have an already fast character in there.

Plus if Lulu or Auron gets KO'd for any reason, you have dead weight in your party that may take a looong time to remove.
Silamon 13 maj, 2016 @ 17:13
Auron gets significantly more strength nodes on his sphere grid than anyone else, and his overdrives all do a lot of damage. That is where the "hitting power" I mentioned come from, not just the piercing stat on his weapons.
His overdrives are useless once everyone is hitting 99k anyway though, so his usefulness in late game is rather low.

Oh man low agility Auron using an overdrive? He ain't never getting another turn after that. Better to have another not quite as hard hitting character in there who can potentially act 2 or 3 times in the time it takes Auron just to get 1 turn.
Ryrin 13 maj, 2016 @ 17:23
Furthermore, "Armor Break, which is probably the most useful break ability, can be inflicted with frag grenades at a 100% success rate. Auron's armor break skill doesn't have a 100% inflict rate. So Auron's usefulness dwindles even further. And even more reason to have the speedy Rikku in there instead.

Auron has an overdrive that applies Power Break, Armor Break, Magic Break, and Mental break with 100% success rate.

I'm aware, but it's dangerous at worst and annoying at best to bring him in to use that. Especially since Overdrives have a very high usage rank. His next turn may not be for a long time. I know this from experience because I once brought him into use that overdrive and regretted it because I couldn't get him out of my damn party after that.

And you'll almost never need all four of them. Two at the most. Some enemies can even dispel those effects anyway. In which you'll want to be able to re-inflict them immediately. And Auron will struggle to do that.

Ok, you dont like Auron.

So dont use him.

I do like Auron, so I use him.

Easy as that.
