David make your game in the exceptions of your antivirus. possibly it works. because some antiviruses like avast detect a virus in the game. but it is not a virus it is a false positive.

Ok I have a possible fix.

Worked for me and I have a pretty good pc, I call it a bug some may disagree

Don't launch the game via steam or via the FFX launch

Go to you your game install location

<drive>: <folder eg program folder/x86> Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY FFX&FFX-2 HD Remaster

Right click > run as administrator

FFX.exe = Final Fantasy X
FFX-2.exe = Finaly Fantasy X-2

had to explain the above as after 5 years working in IT im use to stupid questions and don't want to hear it

If you want to change settings i.e. graphics or what ever open the launcher from with FFX folder location or through steam then close and run the game.exe when you want to play

if possible would like a fix for this issue but I have a work around

LOL you cry about the game not working and you have a toaster of a pc. Try reading the requirements, or better yet, get a console, because you have no clue at all about pc's.

Thanks though

Atleast i'm actually trying to help rather than trying to sound smart by being a (fill in the blanks)

You could have corrected what i over looked without being a douche nozzle

The fact that you have DX11 installed doesn't mean you can run DX11 on DX10 card. If you have updated DX installed then you have all files required to run DX9/DX10/DX11/DX12 installed.

Only exception is:
Some parts of DX12 can be run on DX11 hardware (you still need OS/driver support for it though) but it's not DX11 cards running DX12 natively.

Yes, I know Bioshock's DX9c running on DX9b hardware. Reason why it somewhat worked even though it looked really bad was the fact that DX9b and DX9c weren't that much different.

Well thats a pretty good system, so if it isnt a problem with the game its an issue with your system in one way or another

1 possibility being that crappy windows8 bs.
Do yourself a favor and upgrade to Win10 bro, you'll be amazed at the difference.
I upgraded my gfs Win8.1 laptop to it a few days ago, world of difference and much lower RAM usage along with 20 less running processes compared to Win8.

But try closing some processes, see how that does.

Nope posted my work around above I would say a bug in the game unsure if multi monitors a causing the bug and CBF to actually test it further

and I work as an IT technician and I can tell you now I have seen less issues with windows 8.1 then I have seen with windows 10

Try changing resolution it

it will be a trial and error process but that should help

still playing around with it to find best spec but so far but really need a fix for this bug

game won't work on a 1920x1080 resolution that I have tested on 3 pc's so far

Well I just ran the game on my 770GTX all settings to max cept 4xAA instead of 8x... Have you tried updating graphics drivers?

yup posted my work around earlier hates running through steam I have a feeling the overlay may be pissing it off or something through steam is. works fine when I run it without steam
Drakelstorm May 13, 2016 @ 6:51am
^that's interesting. The (steam)overlay seems to work fine for me, but I can't get Geforce Experience Sharing and what not to work even on fullscreen.

Edit: Actually got it working, only problem is the screen flashes black everytime you bring up the GFE overlay.

ran all my tests for some reason FFX hates people using modified steam skins with multiple monitors

anyway for anyone have the black screen of death with music issue just run the game directly from the steams common folder should resolve the issue without fuss

FYI to OP before crying about your own stupid mistakes before pressing the pay now button check that your PC meets min specs otherwise you are just asking for trouble

I know steam offer refunds but with your attitude I really hope they don't as your negativity is quite unwelcoming and unpleasant, rather than go off at people and say a waste of money you could of easily admitted to your screw up and just advised people of checking pc specs before buying.

Yes there is a slight bug and a lot of people are facing this issue but at least asking for help would have a much different outcome to people responding to you, I help people with pc issues all the time and my response can either be in your case ♥♥♥♥ off or to a friendly persons case sure I would be glad to help

yeah FFX really hates overlays for some reason but running in borderless mode while I watch netflix on my left monitor and my Virtual Machines running on my right monitor still allows the game to run on absolute max settings.... I really don't get it
OuchThatHurt May 13, 2016 @ 9:34am
I was running it with steam overlay in game and EVGA precision running not a problem for me with those overlays in FFX was in Full screen with all settings at max 1080p only until my new rig is ready ...then 4k gaming xD

BTW i rolled my GPU drivers back to 347.52 ...because that is the most stable drive i'm found for my GTX 580 i try new ones and they suck so keep rolling back to that.
epoz May 13, 2016 @ 9:39am
works fine for me so far
and the port seems to be the a good one this time

Something must be causing it not to work right if it can't be launch from the launcher.

I seen a lot of problems, I fixed a lot of problems, but the only problem I can't solve sometimes is some of the rare case of people PC not willing to work like everyone else, may it be due to pirated OS, bad installs, overlaping software, software being trigger by other softwares apps, outdated firmware & drivers, hardware such as muilt screen, to low of a screen resolution, crazy setups, etc... Far as I can tell you, this is the same way to get some of the other games with launchers.

If you want Steam overlay for your game, since you can't launch it from the launcher, this is what you want to do.
  1. On Steam, add a non-steam game, go to
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY FFX&FFX-2 HD Remaster

  2. Add FFX.exe and FFX-2.exe you can then rename them in Steam once you added them.

  3. Now you can launch them via Steam, but please know that you may not get achievements since you're playing this as a Non-steam game. Also Screenshots may not be in the same category.
