Getting steam controller to work?

It has options for controllers, but for some reason I can't get Steam controller to work, any ideas?

O.o why the need to confure the steam controller?

Steam should have set it up automatically -- thats why we paid that amount of money it cost!!

im having the same issue.. the game doesn't detect the steam controller .. so we cant configure anything :s

Yep still having issues too, tried everything suggested.

It seems the game uses DirectInput instead of XInput. It's not a Steam Controller issue.

Map your controller properly and play the game. It's not a chore.

go into big picture mode, select manage game
goto controller setup
press x to import settings
go to templates and select precission aiming

All I did was launch the game through big picture mode, go to controller config and select the only available profile. After that the controller works.....mostly. Analog sticks and face buttons work fine, as well at R1 and R2, nothing else really does anything.

Strange ,, not working for me,, tried the recommended profile as the precision aiming profile and both arent working for me,

the only one that worked something just had a back right side of the controller to take pictures .. lol..

Do you have other controllers plugged in?

Is your steam overlay turned on?
I don't know if it is still true but the majority of the steam controller functionality, including profiles, wouldn't work without the overlay enabled.

i havent disabled it .. just checked the option and was enabled -- even though i had no idea it existed ^^

Have also checked if i had the controller up to date ..
nothing wrong on my end .. seems i have to wait for a working template

PS - i was testing FFX - havent tried the other games yet with those templates

Could you elaborate on what profile you chose? i think i have tried most out there.

I figured it out for me by the way, just use keyboard buttons rather than controller buttons.

but setting up the controller to the keyboard keys also takes time - i at least expected that they would have a profile set for the controller at the game lauch ..

oh well im going to try set things up..

It could be worse and not work at all. I've only come across one game I haven't been able to get working on the steam controler so far, and that could just be I haven't figured out the trick.
