Should I Go Dub or Sub?
Never played a FF game before. I have seen a reasonable amount of anime and do like some dubs. I've liked the English dubs of Madoka and Psycho Pass, for example, just to give you an idea of what's good to me.

What's the general view of this game's dub? What's you're personal view? How many dubs of Japanese stuff have you seen and liked? Just trying to get an idea of how our tastes compare.

Thanks a bunch.

Personally, I prefer the Japanese voices simply because they are consistently great. The English dub is certainly one of the better ones when it comes to video games, however there are some voices I just don't find too fitting for various reasons. That being said, there's some great ones, too (DiMaggio, Strong, and of course Dwight Schultz all do an excellent job).

It's hard to narrow this down to anything but personal taste, though.

Go with Japanese audio for this one, the English dub has issues because of some technical limitations they had. The subs weren't made for it, but they do match what's actually being said most of the times.

X-2's English dub didn't have the problem with limitations, but they made the dialogue much cornier than it originally was for some reason. Unfortunately, that means the subs won't match as well as in X, but nothing that can be done about this.

Normally i would ONLY ever recommend Japanese Original Voice with English sub (on all things, anime included) but this is the exception. The English voicing was hailed as quite excellent even on the Japanese side of things (you can google for that).

Zera makes a solid point about technical issues (i originally played this on my PS2, and am now revisiting it here and haven't noticed too much difference with the English, but memory might be filling in the gaps for me.)

Overall solid advice from prior posts and comments I would agree with, but mark me down for English Dub vote =D

I only had the Chance back then to play it with ENG Dub (and German Subs), back then I would say it was quite a good Dub, but since I was able to play the ♥♥♥ Dub Version thanks to Steam I need to say, I prefer the Japanese Voices for many Characters, sure the English Voice actors did a good job but some voices are just weird and/or feeling out of place, this might be due the limitations backthen tho as mentioned above (like changed dialoge, super fast speaking etc to fit these limitations).

Else you can always go to YouTube or something and see the difference for yourself in a comparison Video.

I think I'd actually prefer the Japanese with sub but I've heard that you need some buggy mod to even get English subs going with the Japanese track.

Thanks again, everyone.

Buggy mod? You do need Untitled Project X, but that mod isn't "buggy" at all (at least in X).

English sub is good, but Japanese voices are better.

Do you enjoy things in your actual language that you speak?

That is the only question you ever need to ask. If the dub isn't insanely friggin' terrible, it's always the way to go.

This dub features Bender doing a Hawaiian guy. How could you not want that?

I dunno, sometimes the VAs in one language don't do as good a job as in the other. In those cases which language I happen to speak doesn't change which track I'd like most. Additionally, voice acting is important enough for me that I can dislike a dub even if it isn't truly terrible.

Played two hours of English dub. Maybe I'll get project X and see what the Japanese is like. So far mostly I'm just distracted by all of the pauses mid sentence and whatnot. Also Tidus is a but too energetic for me.

But hey, I'll keep going for a bit.

I've always thought that one of X's charms was the subpar English voice acting. Strangley, the English VA is one of the things that I liked the most about the game ever since my first PS2 playthrough.

Sub probably, I went dub because that's how I first played and the laughing scene made me cringe XD.... I think Yuna has a more mature voice actor in sub also so everyone is probably a bit less whiney

I mean Tidus is annoying as ♥♥♥♥ but I recommend english dub cause hating Tidus is what keeps the game interesting.

I tend to like games/anime with the voices they were originally meant to have. In the case of games from Square, that usually tends to be Japanese. This is because, sync aside, the writing's actually decent and puns/gags and plot points get explained exactly how the writer intended, whilst dubs are translations and often feel exactly like they are; a track pasted over the original.
That's why, even though I enjoy The Last Remnant with ♥♥♥ voices, I prefer it in English. Because the writing and sync was primarily aimed for English instead of Japanese.

So I like stuff with the language it was intended for. I pretty much dislike most dubs, my language or not.

He starts off really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying, but he gets better over the course of the game in my opinion.

Very similar to Hope from FF 13 in that regard. Didn't really like either of them at the start of the game.
