You need to unlock a total of 10 area and/or species creations.

My advice would be to just go and catch 10 in every zone except Sin and Omega, because that will be easy to do without having Auron's celestial weapon. That will give you the sigil, and you can use the weapon to complete the last two areas. In the end, you'll need 10 of every monster in every zone anyway to fully unlock the arena.

Alternatively, catch 1 of each. Faster but you'll have to go back later and do more.

You need 10 in every zone EVENTUALLY, if you want to fight Nemesis.

If you want the Mars Sigil only, you need a total of 10 species and/or area creations. Species creations you get for capturing at least 1 of every member of that species (for example 1 of every flan, or 1 of every wasp, etc.). Area creations you get for catching at least 1 of every monster in an area (e.g. 1 of every monster from Besaid, 1 of every monster from Kilika, etc.). 10 total of those, and you get the Sigil.

However, my suggestion was simply that if you want to fight Nemesis at some point, you might as well already catch 10 of each while you're at it.
