Having trouble with Last Mission

I got up to floor 15, and now I'm stuck... because I can't break the elevator seal. I've googled it, and the guides all say "kill five fiends, then perform an action other than attacking, then drop two items".

Well, I've killed over 20 fiends by now, used every ability I have equipped, dropped my entire inventory, spherechanged into every sphere I carry, read several folios... nothing. The only thing that removed a seal was attacking randomly into thin air. That removed one seal. I can't figure out what to do to remove the other.

I've seen posts here from people who have gone way beyond floor 15. How the heck did you do it?
