Second, what control method are you using? I'm going to mention the controller buttons since I have no idea what they are on keyboard.
Anyway, unless you press the corresponding button (Triangle on a PS controller, probably Y on an xbox one), open the menu and choose either manual A or manual B, you're not controlling anyone. You also don't control anyone when your team doesn't have the ball, no matter what.
Once you're on manual, pressing Square (PS) or X (xbox) will open the action menu, where you can decide to pass, shoot or dribble. The idea is to get as close to the goal as possible and shoot, passing to other players along the way.
When breaking to someone, remember that their AT stat can be up or down 50%, keep that in mind.
Getting that one goal can be done in two ways.
One involves the Jecht Shot, but even if you did earn it earlier on the ferry, Tidus won't have the requisite level to equip it until after half-time. And after half-time you have about 2 minutes to play it before Tidus will swap out for Wakka.
If this is the way you're going to go, you need to get lucky with the blitzoff after half-time and get the ball from that, then gun for the enemy goal ASAP. When you use Jecht Shot, it can get rid of two defenders without needing to break through them. Depending on the order in which they come in, Tidus should be able to break through one opponent, knock two out with Jecht Shot and then have it continue on to shoot at the goal.
The other is a more general strategy that also works in the first half. It involves baiting the enemy onto your half of the field and then passing the ball around/through them to Tidus, who can then make a run for the enemy goal unobstructed. However, Tidus is not quite fast enough to outrun the enemy, so this requires precise timing and a lot of luck to get in a clean shot.
Keep note of the above strategy to bait and bypass; it will work wonders later on, when you can get a fast midfielder onto your team with a high pass (PA) stat. If you get Brother (Al Bhed airship pilot); he's fast enough and has a high enough pass stat to kite the entire enemy team across the field to your goal and then succesfully pass to one of your attackers on the enemy side.
Works - Every - Time.
(Well, except against the Guados. But Brother has high EN and the Guados generally have low AT, so he can break through a few easily and still have enough PA to pass the ball unhindered. Brother is a beast.)
Generally basics in blitzball:
- dont look at the playfield or your player, look at the minimap
- the triangle with the circle had the ball
- in defense you dont control your players
- in offense, look at point 2
- the team should be played in "Manual A"
the first game is very tricky. to make a win is very heavy and you need a lot of luck.
when your player have the ball and you swim around, the KI-Player will you stopped. is the top of the KI-triangle in your circle, have you a stand-off. is your player "free", press the button for action what you wont. in the first games is the best, pass on tidus und go for goal. have you a stand-off, then will the game your action and calculate the opposit.
Passing - your Pass <-> KI AF, your passing skill is 15 - KI AF 8, you pass, KI tackle the ball, cant stop it. the tackle is random. in this scene maybe your passing -6. Now you have 9 for the way to the receiver. is the way to long, he cant hold the ball. not every time is the calculate in right term. it is possible you have a higher score, but the calculator random is joking. isnt often.
your skill and the opposit standing always one below the others.
a gameplay basic:
game is beginning. Letty/MF has the ball. you swim a small step forward and stop. Datt/RF and Tidus/LF swims and the offense-line from your opponent swims return. now you are swimming with Letty/MF forward. in this moment the offense-line swims complete to Letty/MF. press the action button when letty is free. pass to Jassh/LV. now you swiming to the edge of the sphere. the offense/RF come the jassh/LV. in this time has Tidus/LF one opponent. now you passing to him. swim with tidus to the goal and make a goalshot. normal, späro or jekkt. the AF from the defenseman and the FA from the keeper is your calculate oppenent in this time.
i hope, you understand my text. ;)
i will test this soon :p
You don't have to sure. You'll never get another overdrive with Wakka or his Celestial weapon without doing so however.
Yeah but unless you were to look up information you wouldn't find out how Wakka gains more overdrives as the game never tells you that. Skirting around the information by referencing it that vaguely doesn't help anyone.
Said weapon will be useless until you gain the Sigil at the very end of the chain of Blitzball games to unlock it, since until that time it will have No AP on it and block you from leveling up.
Getting the Sigil to appear as a Blitzbal reward requires that you obtain all Wakka's overdrives first and getting his final overdrive to appear as a Blitzball reward requires that you've fought in atleast 450 battles.
I.e. in a normal playthrough that doesn't involve steadily paced grinding at every turn, you will never ever get any utility out of that weapon or out of Blitzball until you've reached near the end of the story.
For most 'normal' players, getting those 450 battles done comes as part of the Monster Arena quests, trying to satiate the '10 of each fiend in the game captured' requirement.
