In some cases, you can avoid triggering the Dark Aeon fights, as mentioned above, the Magus Sisters can be avoided but other Dark Aeons will force fights on you making it incredibly difficult battles.

If you have solved all of the destruction sphere puzzles you will be able to activate all six of the statue's in front of you, if not then go back and do them. After you activate all six of the statue's the door to the chamber of the fayth will open and you will acquire Anima.
Zanarkand is the last place with a hidden chest, you have to return to the trials after beating yunaleska and gaining the airship, just dont try to enter yunaleska's room unless you can beat Dark Bahamut.
