It can be assumed that unsent are primarily held together by their own willpower - they're refusing to come to rest on the Farplane, until they are forced there by a summoner's sending. However, they seem able to resist sending at least to some degree if they're at full power (which is why you need to beat down Seymour first before you can send him).
It shouldn't be any different for Auron.
you certainly can "kill" them but that is more like beating them down so long till they no longer have the ability to remain in the realm of the living. It seems to be entirely their emotiosn and willpower that keep them here - either strong emotions like grief - or willpower like Auron and Seymore.
But at Bevelle - you just beat their huge mystical gaurdian-monster, stormed through those soldiers, beat up their huge flying magical canons - and now they stop cause of those punny little guns. Hillariously bad.
