I can't get the Celestial Mirror

I cant get the Celestial mirror. I went and found dad/husband and reunited him and his wife. Now the kid is gone but they're not concerned about it at all. In fact they haven't even noticed. (I'm glad they weren't my parents growing up.) I talk to them and they just tell me how happy they are to be reunited. No mention of the boy. I go to where he should be (crystal road) and he's not there. Just some lady talking about how nice this new road is. Is there something else I should do first to get them to realize their son is gone? And yes I do have the Cloudy Mirror. I don't recall having to do butterfly catcher first. I've already sunk 45 hours into this and don't want to have to start over. I even uninstalled/reinstalled the game twice.

Have you finished Zanarkand? I believe you can't get the CM before that.

Ok I figured out what I was doing wrong. You have to talk to either 1 of the parents twice (back-to-back) to get them to realize their son is missing.
I knew I was forgetting something.
