Chocobo Catcher Race IMPOSSIBLE...

Hi everyone, is there any other way to get the bloody sun sigil other than the chocobo catcher race? I am absolutely terrible at this game...

I've read up all the tips and tricks with the chocobo catcher, not sure if its my controller or my brain just not good enough for this game.

any expert out there able to help me play and get the sun sigil?

It's the only way to get the Sigil.

If you just want to skip the race, you can edit your savegame with something like e.g. the Farplane editor, and just add the Sigil. Or you can use CheatEngine to freeze the race timer at 0:0:0 so you always win.

Other than that, if you want to do the race and win there isn't really that much to it other than practice. The position of the balloons varies slightly; if you can't catch the ones at the start, it's very hard to win. Other than that, keep to the center lane as the camera shifts back towards the end, and don't get hit by birds. It's annoying, I feel you; but other than practice there's little else you can do.

If only there was a way to just restart the race when you see you won't make it.
Other than that - keep trying, it takes quit a bit of luck for the balloons/birds to line up nicely. Even when your control is perfect you are by far not guaranteed to win, but when you got a lucky run it can be really easy, just takes some attempts.
And as hinyuu said - if you really can't get it or it is too frustrating for you - cheating is always an option. it is a singleplayer-game anyways. if you don't care that you didn't get the item "legit" then so be it. I used the lightning-script too cause i can't be arsed to do that thing every time.

I did this ONCE in 20 years of playing this game, and nothing in the world can make me do it ever again.

This may well be the worst endgame-gear-gating activity any game has ever had.

As said above, feel free to just edit the game to make it more fun for yourself. Nobody can police your enjoyment but you, and you are probably mature enough to be trusted with that responsibility :)

I can help you get it. I can get the 0:0 necessary in a few minutes I'm very good at Chocobo racing in this game.

Don't give up! Yes, it's annoying, but after about 2 hours of on-and-off sessions, I was able to get it.

I think that's the key: to split your mini-game grinding with breaks. It's pretty easy to tire yourself over a mini-game, thinking you're so close, when you're actually getting further away in the process.

Definitely look up some strategies on Youtube too, if you feel you're not progressing. After a while, you should be able to get pretty close to 0:0:0. and then you can practice your efficiency from there.

I HATE this minigame. I played FFx for a while as a kid so the old moves are still in me, last time I played I got it in like 5 rounds after ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and complaining for like an hour at my wife before trying. Then she yelled at me and told it was easy, then she tried it and now she won't play ffx.

Look up some guides on youtube. As far as I can recall, dodging the birds are more important than getting balloons. to get an easy win get 4 balloons at the top before birds are a real issue. Stick to the wall on the top and the open at the bottom (I think). Best to check a guide because I can't remember proper.

I don't know if it was psychological or not, but I read a tip that if you do poorly, the next round will be easier. I spent one round slamming my face into a wall until the race automatically ended (at 2 minutes), and then the next time every single balloon was lined up in my favor and I easily got 0.0.

It is really annoying because it requires a healthy portion of both luck and skill. You can practice to get better, but even then you still need to just wait until the luck gods bless you with good balloon placement. From my experience it takes less time than you might expect once you can get over the frustration and just throw yourself at it repeatedly until it works.

There is RNG involved in the layout, but the good layouts aren't rare. They happen very regularly, and the unlucky ones are much less common.

But of course it still sucks you basically can't (or almost can't) win the bad ones.

there is no other way to get it except the race but here some advices:
-get as many balloons as possible
-finish the race with 1 bird hit or less.

you can skip balloons if bird coming on it, cuz they add much time

you will need at least to finish race with:
13-14 balloons & 1 bird hit to get 0:00:0

just be persistent and you will eventually get it :)

-.- I have managed a 4 second time 3 times now but just one damn bird too many kept me from the prize. Is so frustrating when you get a congragitory screen for beating yur record when it is .1 second from the last time and still not the 0.0 goal and you know one damn bird is the cause...

Oh it is but that is more slow repetetive till you mess up over half way through and want to throw your mouse into the monitor... the chocobo race makes me want to have roast chicken in retaliation to the bird kind making me fail when I am sooo close... -.-
