Random image freezes
After I reached Besaid, every once in a while the screen freezes. I can still hear the sound, move around, interact with stuff, etc., but the image is frozen, and the only way to fix this is by alt-f4-ing. On one case, after I pressed Start when the screen was frozen, the game just closed, with no error message or anything. Its not super frequent, but it happened enough to make me lose like 20 minutes of progress. Is there any way to fix this?

have you tried reinstalling the game or updating all system drivers?

Yeah, didn't help :/ . Drivers are up to date, too

Nvm, I apparently fixed it. Turns out FFX limits itself to only using 2gbs of ram. Sometimes, the game peaks that memory usage (which can occur randomly), and since it "doesn't have enough memory" to keep going, it just crashes. Applying a simple patch to let it use up to 4gb seems to have fixed it, so far nothing's wrong. If anyone bumps into this, the link to the guide and 4gb patch is here[www.speedrun.com]. Its surprisingly simple. Btw, the guide mentions that if your problem is specifically tied to FMV cutscenes (like, the game only crashes when they're about to play), this might not help, as it seems to be a different problem.

(and when you apply the patch, choose the "FF X" .exe specifically, not the launcher or the other .exes related to X-2, the movie, and Last Mission. I haven't played those yet, so I don't know if they need the 4gb patch too, but still, if you have the same problem with them, try applying the same method. And also, once you do patch FF X.exe, you can still open the game by clicking the normal steam shortcut that leads to the launcher, no need to open FFX directly from the exe)

As Arthur said, you can try increasing the ram limit to 4GB (the game's x86). If you already have Visual Studio installed, instead of downloading any patch you can use editbin. Open the developer shell (as administrator) and type -
editbin /LARGEADDRESSAWARE (location of exe without brackets)

This should change the max limit to 4GB. As to whether it actually helps with this bug, I have no idea.

Hey, that post was from 2020 haha. I'm both the OP and also the guy who talked about the 4GB patch =] I solved it myself.
