In FFX, Can you use a Teleport Sphere when a character isn't in the party?

As in the title, can you use a Teleport Sphere when a character isn't in the party?

For instance, when Yuna is captured, or before Rikku joins the party, are you able to use a Teleport Sphere to teleport to either of their nodes on the grid?

As Rikku is in the party for a hot minute at the beginning of the game, I wonder if it would be doable to blitz a Teleport Sphere and teleport Kimarhi over to the Steal node, rather than having to expend 14 sphere levels. Any reply would save me a few hours of game-time.

I believe that while characters are not in the party, they don't appear on the SG at all - including on all their nodes. So you couldn't use a Teleport Sphere to access their nodes either.

14 levels isn't that many. You're better of just taking the path and collecting the other upgrades to

Just grind with Turbo mode.
