Cloudy mirror upgrade bug(?)

So I am at the end of the game where I need to take on Sin. I went to the temple and did the chocobo race and got the cloudy mirror, went down to the forest and spoke to the lady and her son, they said dad's missing, got dad, then they said son was missing. Found son but during the dialogue when you meet him at the top he mentions theres some strange power here, but it never prompted me to use the cloudy mirror.

Now for some reason there is no more family in the forest (both at the entrance, camp site and at the top), I can't unlock the chest to get Nirvana (obviously), when I head to the top of the forest along the path to attempt to trigger any upgrade dialogues there is nothing. I'm not sure if they are actual key items because there is nothing in my inventory, and when I head back to the temple to make sure I did indeed get the cloudy mirror, the chocobo doesnt initiate any form of dialogue etc

Am I missing something?

Did you use the talk/examine/etc button on the tree thing?

I did indeed try to initiate some form of interaction but nothing. Strangely enough, after a Google search for a list of key items I see that both mirrors are actually listed in the games inventory once you obtain them, in my case there is nothing showing up even though I have obtained the cloudy mirror.

UPDATE: Still nothing showing up on my game. Unable interact with the glowing tree thing (nothing physically happens), cannot open the chest to get Nirvana, no Key Items listed in my inventory showing the Cloudy/Celestial mirror.

That would indicate you didn't actually get the Mirror.

Maybe you reloaded a save and forgot to get it again?

If you really can't get it from the chocobo race at Remiem, you can try adding the key item manually with a tool like Farplane, and see if the quest works then.

Thanks for the input Hinnyuu. I most definitely received it (only use 1 save file for my playthrough) and I got the achievement for the Chocobo race at Remiem. When I go back to the temple, I can talk to the Chocobos standing on either side but they don't actually do anything other than a simple animation. I'm really stumped, especially considering that the family in Macalania are not there (neither the entrance or anywhere in the vicinity).

My only conclusion is that the save file is some how corrupt and I will have to manually add the Cloudy mirror to my inventory :(

If you reloaded a save to before you did the race, you would still have the achievement; and if you haven't talked to the orb with the instructions for the race in Remiem, you can't start the race - so maybe that's it?

It's not impossible for data to be corrupted, but it's exceedingly rare. Manual adding might fix it either way, though.

Thanks Hinnyuu, I took your advice, managed to find a previous save just before I went to Remiem (had to play about another 4 hours to get to the point), did the race, got the mirror, proceeded to Macalania to reunite the family, activated the mirror on the "magic tree stump" and..... nothing. Disappeared from my inventory, no prompt showing the Celestial mirror, no Cloudy mirror in Key Items menu, same as before. I am not sure what is going on to trigger this but it seems to be a bug because if I load up the FFX item editor, I can add the Celestial mirror to my inventory and then proceed to carry on with the game as normal (grabbed the Nirvana, did the upgrades, etc) all working fine.

Very strange that this is happening, I have never heard of a bug like this or experienced it twice in one "playthrough". I am not sure what I did to trigger this but I'm sure starting a new game would probably fix it, but I managed to work around it with the item editor.

That's very weird indeed, I guess freaky things do happen from time to time!
