How to use equipment abilities ?
Hi there, I am totally new with Final Fantasy. The only ones I've done are Crystal Chronicles on Gamecube and DS.
I have some weapons and armors which have abilities. Some are passive of course, like lifepoints + 5%, but others have things like Analyze.
I can't find any way to use those in battle.

Any help appreciated (just got to the second temple, so maybe it'll be available later ?)

You don't "use" those abilities in FFX - they're all passives. There are no active abilities on gear in FFX. A weapon with "Sensor", for example, will always have you able to see enemy stats just like that. No need to activate anything. Abilities like "Poisontouch" or whatever will trigger on their own when you hit an enemy. Also no special actions required.

In FFX-2, some accessories do give you activated abilities. They will be added to your battle menu like any regular ability. For example, if an accessory allows you to cast "Fire", your battle menu will now have "Black Magic" listed, and under that "Fire" will be available - just as though regularly had the ability.

Also about equipment in FF-X- there are some hidden stats/functions:

Weapons dropped by Bombs (not the king though) have higher attack (18 instead of the normal 16) and thus dealing 12.5% more damage.

Weapons dropped by some monsters in the monster farm give a 3%, the ultimate extra boss 7% extra crit-chance. (read the wiki for which monsters)

celistial weapons ignore defense and the damage scales with the characters HP/MP.

While true, most of that is a curiosity rather than anything you actually have to take into account when making decisions. The only thing that's important is the Celestial Weapons' defense-ignoring property, meaning they will win in attack damage over any custom-made weapon conceivable in virtually any scenario.

The rest is fun to know but just won't matter for anything.
